I'm up in the north on Monday with the car and nothing else to do. Thought I'd head into North Yorkshire - any recommendations as to where to go for a good blast?

Moors is what I'm thinking. Glance at the map suggests I can't go too wrong

It would depend on what car you are in, whether you prefer fast open roads or windy little lanes, but this is a route which should be quite good on a Monday with no Sunday drivers about.
You can pick it up from the A1/A19 to the West or A64 in the east at Pickering.
A170 Thirsk to Scarborough road, take the B1257 at Helmsley, head towards Rievaulx and up into the Cleveland Hills.
Where the B1257 meets the A172 turn right onto the A173 and go across to pick up the A171 Eastbound towards Guisborough.
Cross the moors to Whitby. Stop ay Whitby, do the touristy thing - walk round, look at the abbey, get fish and chips from the Magpie take away etc.
From Whitby head towards Pickering on A169 and back to the A64.

These are good driving roads, and if you want to make a day of it theer are lots of places along the route you can stop at.
(look at a map and sees what you think), but it is a route I have driven just for the sake of going for a drive.
