I've just started driving in this area, and would like to know your opinions on the best roads around.

Lots of nice cars to see, so hope there's as many good roads.

Problem is they are all very busy around here. Best bet is to head in to South Oxon from Henley - the road up to Pishill (and the Crown pub) is quite good.

Yeah, just went for a little friday afternoon (felt like summer) hoon around, and had to constantly dodge roads where there could be traffic. Still, had a play with a 350Z convertible and saw a nice Lotus Exige.

There are some good roads out from Holyport towards Winkfield, including Drift Road, and there's some more nadgery stuff towards the Walthams. However, like most places in the South East you need to be up pretty early to find them quiet, but for God's sake watch out for the horses and cyclists.

There are some nice roads if you leave Marlow towards Booker Air Field and Lane End ... From Lane End head towards High Wycombe to find some nice twisting, fast backroads. From Wycombe go towards West Wycombe/Princes Risborough ...

There are some nice 40 mile circuits that I do just to have fun and relax

By the way, I don't suppose you mountain bike? Just the name Identiti ...

There's a road that goes west out of Marlow, towards Chisbridge Cross. I've moved to Windsor recently so am starting to explore the area.

I drove this last Thursday in a friend's Cayman S. If you're into your drag strips, then Drift Road is ideal... the bit I drove of it was almost dead straight all the way. I don't go above the national speed limit so there's not much to do. With a few bends you can do some steering input, change gear, and the things that make driving pleasurable.

i've got mates that live down that way, and all of last week i was driving my brand new mini quite happily. if memory serves me correct, then the A404 going up to high wycombe and ? A4 going towards jordans is quite a nice drive. the back roads between wargrave, henley and up towards high wycombe are a good drive too. happy motoring

1. Drift Road - Just outside Maidenhead, dead straight if a bit hilly - watch for people pulling out of the side of the road though!
2. A404 From Maidenhead to Marlow, some nice sweeping bends, with good visibility.
3. "Windsor relief road" (Dual carrigeway from Windsor to Slough) - Is practically a drag strip on sunday nights. Good for some traffic light challenges wink

Just went on the most awesome (it really was) stretch of road.

Leaving Henley towards Peppard common, and then onto Goring is a good section of small roads, which are a good warm up for what's to come. Then continue to Goring and take the spectacular B4009 all the way towards Newbury. This route is continuous fantastic asphalt, which flows nicely, but has a few sharper kinks to keep you alert. I'd say this is the best piece of road I've driven.

I'd strongly recommend this route (I did see an M3 CSL on the way). Not sure how much traffic there usually is, but at 7pm today it was deserted.

Have you driven on the froad from Henley towards Reading/Caversham? The best bit is between Shiplake and Caversham. The only downside is that it tends to be busy.

And it's worth coming off at the A308 and aiming for Cookham Dean - the roads around there offer great fun.

bit further out, but if your going to try the A40 out from Wycombe? then peel off onto the A4010 to Princes Risborough then A4129 to Thame > A329 Milton Common > A40 back to Wycombe, about 30 mile loop if starting from Wycombe.

On one of my ventures I came across JK around Princes Risborough, had a bit of a play (think it was him) made my day biggrin

You can go straight across the M40 when on the A329 and make a bigger trip of it and come back Benson or Henley way which as you said are great roads :Driving: normaly quiet enough to get passed things to (apart from rush hour though obviously)

I live in Henley, and I am in the process of moving. I shall not miss the roads around Henley one little bit. The saying goes, You know you've arrived in Sounth Oxfordshire when they have painted the white lines and double yellows in the potholes.

Give me the roads of North Somerset and Devon any day of the week and twice on Sundays.
