A while back one of the mags (either evo or CAR) did a piece on a terrific-looking twisty Swiss/Italian or Swiss/Austrian mountain pass, a pure driver's road. Name began with a K, I think. Can anyone remember what and where it was?

If so, I must have a copy too. With the 340R on the cover? [rummage, rummage]

Ah, here it is. Number 12, October 1999. Nope, not the one, I'm afraid. Wish I could remember what that road's name was -- I can see the pic in mind's eye...

OK, found it. evo 21, July 2000, p60, if anyone's interested. It's the Klausen pass.

...and the reason I'm interestd is simply that it looks like a fab road to drive next time I happen to find myself in the middle of Switzerland...

Did this road in the summer of 2001 in my Tuscan - it's truly awesome! As I remember the road going up from the west has a much better surface than the 'down' side. There were loads of local bikers and plenty of road signs to remind them that the road is dangerous!
If you are in the area, make sure you have plenty of fuel before you start, as there are no petrol stations until you descend the other side and the first tiny station you come to only accepts cash! The 'low-fuel' warning on my Tuscan was 'on song' for virtually the whole time and GF was doing her 'nut' thinking we were going to run-out at the top! (so did I)!!!!

Just avoid the San Gottardo pass over the next few weeks - they seem to be digging up the whole thing at the moment.
