50mph limit imposed Cheshire side. Some of the roads off to the left of the C&F offer excitement too. Not too much trouble with plod Mon-Sat. but nightmareish on Sundays nb Helicopter often out on w/ends. I drive this road at least once a week, so if you see a blue 993 C4 give us a wave !

Top road; how about you nip down into the Goyt valley and then have a blast up the one way track up to the Cat n Fiddle, blinder of a road; just watch them there yokals!!

I live within a few miles of these roads so know and love them intimatley. It is fookin criminal what they are doing with the Buxton to Macc road - but it is notorius.

Just go for the less well known ones like the Goyt. Watch out for Freelanders round blind bends though. (£300 for a new f**kin' alloy and tyre, and a written off mk2 escort that is now being sold by Henshaws' in Macc)
ps dont buy it cos the A pillar is absolutley shagged

What do you mean? the 50mph limits?

The actual C&F is still a quality drive though. I just find I can go too quick over certain bits

Had to go upto Manchester the other week on a Friday (stupid or what!!!), dropped the mrs and bairn off in Ripley then headed up via Matlock to said road... couldn't believe it, 4pm Friday and this road was empty!!! It was sheer driving heaven, it doesn't get any better..... only I was in the 520 Estate and not the TVR...... doh!

What a road!

Great road it is indeed . Only spoilt by numpties, trucks and over-zealous coppers.

TIP: Don't go on Sundays or bank holidays unless you like watching bikes go fast!

Should've gone up today when the footie was on it would've have been bliss. But was in the pub

TIP 2: Next time you are up there try the A5004 from Whaley Bridge to Buxton. It's a bloody great drive with easy overtaking.

And watch out for the total pricks in the Elises who cannot drive quickly on the correct side of the road, and assume that their nemisis is not going to appear from the opposite direction. I too am 15 mins from these roads and drive a bloody fast car within its and my limits. There are people using this road that don't know theirs!

I live at the bottom of the A5004 and use both of these roads regularly in a car and on a bike - unbeatable roads, but I've noticed over the last month that there seem to be a lot more sheep loose on the road. There was always a risk on the fast open stretch on the Buxton side of the Cat and Fiddle pub, but now there are always some on the Macc side as well. Quite dangerous when your travelling fast in a car, but bloody lethal when you're on a bike. I suspect this may be a conscious decision by local farmers to slow cars/bikes down. It works.

They've also done a pretty crap attempt at re-surfacing the Buxton end. More like a rallycross track in places.

Love that road, prefer it to the Cat and Fiddle. I know what you mean about the sheep though. But watch out for spilt diesel (especially at the Macc end) and stray bits of wood

Crikey, this takes me back to the days when I had long hair and a bike...errrm, - wonder how many people have died on that road since i was last there?

I was best man for the guy that marred [sic] the daughter of the landlord of the 'cat'.. (at the time)

Good memories..

Without a doubt, one of the best roads in the area. Sometimes go there with advanced tests. Midweek, day time is best!

Although nearly came a serious cropper a few weeks ago on the bike. Bloody sheep!

The B6013 from Higham to Buckland Hollow or the A621 from Baslow to Owler Bar are also fantastic, in either direction. They are not quite as fast, but give some brilliant overtake opportunities. That's more fun for me than straight out speed. Managed to hit almost 150 on the B6013 in my 911, trying to keep up with an R1!

Dealt with my first fatal on the A621 though, and been to a few on the 'Cat and Fiddle' road.

You only live once, enjoy!

The pub has an encouraging map on the wall showing where and when people have died or got seriously injured and the circumstances of the accident. The vast majority of accidents haven't involved other vehicles - just people riding too fast.

I almost fell off bike there on Saturday morning when back wheel locked up after an overly agressive downchange, so I rode the rest of the hill very gingerly with heart beating a bit too fast.

Hi guys just revisited this site for the first time in a while, just like to say that the Buxton/macclesfield/congleton triangle is my favourite route bar none. Live in Chesterfield and cant wait for the dry weather. Even with the limits you can still have fun i/on the right car/bike

Used to live in Leek and work at the Rock Inn on Blackshaw Moor many moons ago. Most nights it was like a Grand Prix to the Travellers Rest at Flash, similiar on the way back past the Roaches and across Blackshaw Moor. Recently went back in the TVR from Ashbourne to Leek, I've never seen so many 50 limit signs. It was also the same going over to Macc.

Dad used to tell me that the motorcycle shop in Leek, I think it was Roly Cappers, used to use the Leek to Ashbourne road to test his racing bikes?

Still some cracking roads out that way.

Just reading about you Leek-ites so thought i'd throw my two-pennoth in. Not quite from Leek myself (bit of a Potter!) but went to college there and used to skip lectures to see how fast i could get the Golf up that crazy-steep hill just before the roaches, then on to do the Leek-Buxton-Macc route afap.

happy days.
