Any good roads around Derbyshire?

Don't you mean "are there any bad ones?"

You're in the Peak District. It's fantastic!

Exactly, for some reason there is no way of getting to Manchester without nailing it over the hills, brilliant

I know this is a bit of an old thread - but I thought I'd use it rather than start a new 'un.
N.E.Way - I'm trying to sort out a pleasant day's drive around the Peak District - I've noted M@H's suggestion of the Leek - Buxton road, and am familiar with Winnatt's Pass & Snake Pass (will be using that to head towards Blackpool at the end of the day), but ayone any suggestions for a route lasting about 4 hours?

Damn right it's an old thread, but no reason not to post. If you want roads in Derbyshire:
A515 Ashbourne to Buxton, right onto A5270 (an absolute blast - try and keep above 50mph on the esses - I challenge you!), left onto A6 through the valley. Immense cornering on new tarmac, but watch out when cornering at 50-60mph, as most cars only do 30-40 and you risk running into the back of them. Haven't done much north of there, but if you want a loop (I often do this from Cannock at the Southern end - these are all bikers routes, so even plod do 80+ on their beemer twins and don't care):
B5013 from Rugeley to Uttoxeter, B5030 through Rocester to Ashbourne, A515, A5270, A6, A515 back to Ashbourne.
If this one doesn't get you grinning for more, you need a doctor's note...BTW flash if you see a white MR2...
Oh, and DO NOT FORGET the second most dangerous road in the country according to government statistics, but also the second most screaming road according to mine...the A54 Congleton to Buxton. Best on a sunny day, due to big drops and blind hairpins on crests.
Enjoy! MRD

A515 speed trapping territory. The limit is up and down like a yoyo and the blind dips are ideal for police. Mate of mine got a 3 week ban and £400 worth plus solicitors fees at Buxton court in his Bora TDI. He was clocked at 96mph in a 50 limit so he was lucky and they breathalysed him as well for luck.
