Trip to Lake Garda

Hi All
I dont know if anyone can advise me on a trip to Italy.
Iam going to Lake Garda in September and want to take an interesting route to get there, Iam leaving myself two days to get there but i dont want it to take a lot more time than the straightforward route.
Can anyone advise an interesting route.

if you are starting in the uk its a hell of a long way in 2 days
I did it last year in 3 and went down through France - stopped in Chablis - then down to Geneva - then across using the Grand St Benard pass
2 days is limiting because you will need to press very hard - maybe try and get down to Switzerland in a day (its doable just - with an early ferry/train) and then you can pick a fun route on day 2 using your choice of pass into Italy
I did it last year in 3 and went down through France - stopped in Chablis - then down to Geneva - then across using the Grand St Benard pass

Two days is easy.
Day 1 (early start, natch) Dover to Strasbourg area (we stopped at Saverne). Day 2 Strasbourg to Verona. That was all peage through France, through Basle, Gotthard tunnel, past Locarno, then A4 towards Venice.
The other route we did was from Calais towards Brussels, through Lux and Belgium, stopping off outside Metz. Day 2 took us from Metz through Mulhouse and Freiburg, past Lake Konstanz, into Austria stopping off at Langenfeld (near Obergurgl). Day 3 took us from Langenfeld to Merano and Bolzano, then down the autostrada to Malcesine on Lake Garda.
Be sure to do three things when you're there: hire a speedboat from Lazise, stock up on some good wine from Cantina di Custoza, and visit a trattoria in Valeggio for some proper tortellini!
