Hi all

I am planning a road trip and I am looking for some advice on where to go . I have 2 questions.

1. Did TOP GEAR ever print the full details of the road trip they did with the GT3 RS,AM V8 and the Lambo Super Legera in europe . I can see from you tube where they went but it would be better to have the road details in full.

2. Or if you can suggest any other roads to go on or any parts that are not worth doing on the TOP GEAR run .

Thanks for any input

Regards

Vito

Presume you mean this one

http://forums.finalgear.com/photography/roadtrip-d...

To be honest, lots of the roads round there could qualify for best driving road in the world. Depends a lot on the car you have as well - what's really fun in a small hot hatch might not be such a blast in Gallardo Superleggera or similar.
Have a drive round there and check some out for yourself!

First road is the Col De Turini just above Monaco.

Last section was Davos to Stelvio. Dont know the actual road numbers used though.

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I do not have a tom tom or the autoroute thing . Would it be possible if you know the roads to put them in an email so I can put the details into my car sat nav .

Thanks very much

just came back from stelvio having driven down fom the nurburgring, through Austria, the actual bit where they stood looking down the hill in my opinion is not that great unless you had something like a caterham, the hairpins are so tight, I could barely get round on full lock, must have been terrible in the lambo, probably crunched the spoiler a few times on the the tight switch backs. awesome scenery though. and you have to stop off in the town of W@NK in Germany just before austrian border, the signs are a source of much amusement!

the road from w**k to stelvio had one section of much larger sweeping hairpins that were wide and you could really throw it round, but I cant remember exactly where it is. We didn't have time for F**king, but its 20 miles off the road from W**k to stelvio for more amusing photo oppertunities biggrin

yes I am childish

The road you are looking for is the 28, i drove it about 10 days ago, and it was AWESOME.

I did the reverse from the Top Gear guys, went up the Stelvio, which was a mission and a half with less than 200bhp, then i turned around and came back down, and onto Davos.

From Stelvio you take the SS38 towards Sluderno, turn left onto the SS40 (again towards Sluderno), at Sluderno turn left onto the SS41 and follow that to the Swiss border, the SS41 turns into the 28 at this point. Now just stay on the 28 all the way to Davos, the amazing roads start at the Ofenpass and take you all the way. When you get to Susch be careful as in order to stay on the 28 you have to turn off down what looks like a residential street. Your SatNav will probably tell you to get on the Train, ignore that. What you are looking for is the Fluelapass, roughly 13 miles of the greatest roads in the world. I loved it so much i got up at 7am the next morning and redid it, simply awesome!

will stick pics up soon, hope that helps.

I too heard that the Stelvio was a bit rough, being cobbled in parts as well as being a bit tight in places, especially in something like a Lambo.

Just got back from a Euro trip and did some excellent roads over the Alps. I've posted a few pics of the roads in another thread.

Oh yes indeedee, just got back on Saturday from doing the Gorge Du verdon, The Turini, Mount Ventoux, Route Napolean and Gorges du Tarn.
Quite simply the best roads I've ever driven.
Thankyou 308 man for some excellent advice BTW.

the top gear with the 'best road' must have been edited a bit arse about face in my opinion.

they showed a map when leaving lichenstien of the road from davos to bormio but i'm sure when they stated they came across a cherry to top the cake they must have gone back on themselves.

i've just spent 7 day's in the alps and you could spend a year there and find a new road every day. if you haven't got a year and need a proven route then do the following.

St Moritz to Gastaad (through andermatt) 4 fantastic passes. it's a good 6/8 hours but almost perfect in every way.

There's a book called 'Motorcycle tours in the Alps': on more than one occasion it says 'expect to cover this 10km section in an hour' - and THAT's on a bike!

Did Col De Turini from Menton on the H2R rally a few weeks back, funnily enough I thought it nothing special. You can't really get any speed up between most of the hairpins and as you can't see backwards up the next stretch you daren't run wide on any of the bends in case you meet yourself coming the other way. And once you get stuck behind some bloody tourists in a caravette... ranting
