Hi All
I thought I would post some pictures from my recent trip to Italy.
I had to go to a family weeding at Lake Garda and so thought I would drive, my wife was not so keen she doesn't seem to appreciate my "enthusiastic" driving and as she was 7 months pregnant at the time, she chose to fly with our Son and her Sister, so I took my Mum instead (doesn’t mind enthusiastic driving).
We were booked on the Euro tunnel but they had a little fire that week so I went on the Ferry instead. I booked for low ground clearance but they still put me on with everyone else, but this was ok apart from one big knock on the front splitter driving off where the boat meets the dock.
We then went down through France, Belgium and then Germany with the aim of getting to Davos to stay the night to then get to the Stelvio early next day.
What I didn’t appreciate was that the roads in Germany aren’t a lot better than England in Condition & traffic levels, we went past the Nurburgring and Hockenheim but unfortunately didn't have time to do "A Lap".
We eventually stopped in Ravensburg in Germany I can recommend the Hotel Goldene Uhr http://www.goldene-uhr.de/ they were very nice and had secure underground parking so I didn’t have to unload the car which had all the luggage for myself, The Wife, Mum & The Boy.
Next morning we got up and headed for Davos and this is when the Journey became a lot more interesting, no more boring Motorways. With the Car having the weight of 5 adults on board the performance was a little blunted but the handling was very good indeed if a little bumpy, we headed past Cloisters and then eventually to Davos. It was a bit difficult to find the route to the Stelvio Pass from this point but we eventually came in at the bottom of the Stelvio. You don’t realise your on it initially because the lower part is like most of the other roads but then it got tighter and more and more interesting, and then you turn a corner and you see it on the side of the mountain and my Mums response was " bloody hell were not going up there are we".
About halfway up I passed a British GTi it looked like a standard GTi in Blue but it had the 18" GT Sport alloys on it, the road was amazing it seemed to go forever and best of all there was no traffic on it apart from a moped which actually wasn’t that easy to pass because you only have a short gap to pass before your on the brakes and he was quite quick out of the bends.
Because time was a bit tight I decided just to go back down the other side and that is nearly as much fun.
It was after this that the fun began to fade away, we decided to save a long round trip to go across the Passo Di Gavia this is not for the faint hearted hardly any barriers and sheer drops without passing places.
Anyway here are some pictures
