Original Italian Job
Discussion
>>Does anyone know which mountain pass was used at the end of the original (and proper) Italian Job please?
It's the col de Nivolet. Well worth a visit - very twisty with a steep rate of climb and stunning scenary.

I thought the opening sequence was filmed on the Grand St. Bernard pass - for the past two years it's been ruined by roadworks on the Italian side - at the current rate of progress, I'd suggest it will take another couple before they complete it.

Calling "Snapper8v" (if he is still around!).
You state that you drove on the Lingotto test track in Turin. Is this still open to the public? How do you arrange access to drive on this?
Yes, we drove it in 2006 as part of the Lancia Centenary celebrations http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DOA52oqEvzo . We went back to the Lingotto in 2008 whilst on the way down to San Marino and asked to drive the car up there again, but it was going to be £500!!! We walked it instead as it was free You state that you drove on the Lingotto test track in Turin. Is this still open to the public? How do you arrange access to drive on this?

starts with the Grande heading Italy to Switzerland
the ends in the tunnel on the Petite heading Italy to France
Anyone planning to do this must have Matt Monroe's
On days like these in the car with them!
As has been said by Dom180, the pass where the final scenes were filmed was the Col De Nivolet. It's not the easiest place to get to as the pass has a dead end.
Basically you need to travel approx 40 miles along the valley floor to get to the base of the pass. There's a Shell garage right at the start of teh valley floor, so I'd makesure your tank was brimmed!
I've done it twice, once in 2008 (see vids) and again last year. In August the pass is shut to cars every Sunday, between 09.00 - 17.30, as we found out last year! Managed to get on though
This is part 3 of footage shot in 2008, with the camera being in a friends car. My exhaust was rather loud in those days
