Cant decide if too much driving [Dijon-Chamonix-Davos-Oy]
Discussion
Had a successful EuroTrip last year, although it was a bit too much driving each day. So am planning similar this year but trying to get it more chilled out.
The interesting part of the trip boils down to
Dijon -> Annecy -> Chamonix -> Davos -> Stelvio -> Oy
I worked out I have 3 driving days to do this part of the trip. The mileage is just short of 600miles, but all will be on tiny roads.
Was planning on splitting it up into
1. Dijon to Chamonix via Annecy. 215miles
2. Chamonix to Davos. 210miles
3. Davos to Stelvio, then head almost directly north and stop at Oy or somewhere close to the Autobahn. 165 miles
I'm sure a few are familiar with the approximate core-alpine routes, hence any views as to whether this could be deemed a relaxing tour of alps with time to stop and enjoy views, and to have beer in sunshine at end of day? In theory, I could start the first section a bit closer to Chamonix than Dijon. Any tips as to a better split?

Hi, sounds like a nice little trip.
The first leg is easily doable, and Chamonix - Davos should also be a fairly relaxing drive with enough time to take stops along the way and have a beer when you arrive.
Davos - Stelvio isn't so bad, and trust me, the roads are freakin fantastic! DO NOT let SatNav take you on the train when you leave Davos as the roads to Stelvio are unreal. Last year i did Fussen in Germany - Davos via Stelvio in 1 day, and although it was a struggle and was getting dark when we arrived it was the best driving day of my life. Had plenty of time to stop off along the way, and a nice relaxing beer in Davos when we arrived.
The best route from Davos - Stelvio is simple, get on Route 28 and follow it to Santa Maria, then up Route 41 to Sluderno, turn right when you reach the town centre, onto Route 40, then 10 miles later turn right again onto the 38, and thats it, your there!
Thats what i did, and here's a quick Powerpoint thing of my holiday last year, you have to get down to slide 105 before you see the route you'll be taking, its well worth it, but make the most of route 28, that is the best road in Europe.

Hope that helps, have a great trip

Hi,
I'm from Cluses, a city close to Chamonix.
If you like alpine little roads, hairpins and stuff like that, here is the road I'd recommend, from Geneva to Chamonix via Morzine and Annecy.

Some of these roads are stages of the national Rallye "Rallye du Mont-Blanc".
If you want any other advices...

heyjack, it looks like a good set of roads, but unfortunately i doubt it would fit into my timetable in entirety.I'm from Cluses, a city close to Chamonix.
