A413 from A40 to Chalfont St Peter, not very long, but has a nice curvy section on a hill, under a viaduct, followed by a long straight to the finish.

A417/A419 from Swindon to Gloucester is nice too

Luckily not! But I actually find it a nicer drive from Reading to M6 to go M4/A419/A417/M5/M6.

OK it takes a little longer, but is normally quieter (except in rush hour, I've never understood how so little traffic creates so much of a queue!)

Tell me about it. One day you can drive through there no problem, other days, you can sit in stationary traffic for 20 minutes....

back to the original post.....

I quite like the A30 from Exeter to Hayle, but am not quite so fond of the A30 from Hayle to Exeter

Anyone heard of Zig Zag Hill in Dorset? It is literally a zig zag of B road up the side of a small, but very steep hill consisting of 6 or 7 wonderful hairpins. It's just outside Shaftesbury on the road to Cranborne Chase. I'm lucky enough to live just a few miles away and cannot resist waiting at the bottom 'til I'm sure there's nobody ahead of me and then hillclimbing the Griff up it. 5 stars - Highly recommended.

I second the motion for the A64, but my favourite bit is from scarborough to york, also the A69 newcastle to hexham is really great at a pace and in the small hours... quality
