Hi all,

Does anyone know how long it takes from Slough to Newbury in rush hours?
I am planning to commute from Slough to Newbury daily for work. Am I being mad or is it do- able?
Google maps say would take me 42min. but in rush hours how long it will actually take me?
I am hoping that as I am not going in to London, but the other way around, it wouldn't be as bad?? Is this true? Can anyone share any light on this, please?

If you know of better shortcuts, that would be great, too smile

Thanks so much!

Rush hour on the M4 is pretty manic around J8/9, J10, J11 through the roadworks and J12...basically all the way from Slough West J7 to J12 Reading.

It SHOULD only take approx 45 minutes, however I know from bitter experience it can take up to 90 minutes on a bad day...and then you have to face the Robin Hood roundabout in Newbury, which apparently has been "improved" by West Berks Council...allow at least 20 minutes to get through all the traffic lights and the idiots jumping the reds to make road progress...

Forgot to mention, if the M4 is blocked or really slow, try to stay off the A4 as that builds really quickly and can take forever to get anywhere at rush hour time.
There are loads of country lanes you can try as well, but they're not too fast...

Good luck!

I used to do Reading to Slough in the height of the rush hour. It was a soul destroying experience and would frequently take around 1 hour, but usually 45min+.

Can't comment on going the opposite way, but it looked pretty similar.

Trial, and mostly error, found that all other alternative routes were even slower.

Alternatively, buy a bike driving

Sorry about the delay been on night shift...
I work on the M4 daily and deal with the multiple traffic queues every day, so if I'm on days then I'm on the motorway from 0700.
Usually the traffic build from 0730 and can be manic from 0745 from Slough to Reading, so if you're planning on 0800 starts I could suggest travelling from 0700...but there is still no guarantee you'll make it on time...
After 1600 it's manic again, especially around the Reading junctions, so be prepared for long delays from J11 to J7...
