We took the night ferry over to Santander from Portsmouth on Brittany Ferries, it takes 24 hours and if the weather is calm, as it was it makes for a relaxing start to a holiday.
We did 1600 miles all in all and the weather was pretty damn good for the two weeks....it was a great trip and there a couple of places that I would like to revisit on a future road trip.
First couple of nights we stayed up in the foothills of the Picos de Europa in a small hotel called Casona de Nevada de Campoo which is about 25kms from Reinosa.....it was a lovely hotel....well worth a visit.

Alto Campoo. I was most impressed with the qaulity of the roads in N. Spain......even the raods in the mountains were very smaooth and fast.......wandering cows were a bit of a problem though especially coming rounf blind corners.....I nearly had one.

Around Rioja....

Up through the Pyrenees to Pau....

A very low reservoir....and remains of a submerged finca.....

Stopped three nights in Pau....I have not been to Pau for nigh on 35yrs......yes it had changed but still a very nice town with a lot of British connections.

Lunch time refreshments.....

Saw two very well kept 993s in Pau on the same evening.....sorry about the quality of pics......the silver one is a C4S and the black one a Carrera 2.......the black one drove off before I could take anymore pics and never got a chance to speak with the owner as I was talking to the guy in the C4S at the time.

After Pau we travelled up to stay with friends near Saintes for three nights and visited Blaye a fortified town with the fort on a bluff overlooking the Gironde.

The Gironde from the bluff.

We then travelled up to the Cherbourg Peninsula and stayed at a lovely seaside hotel at Barneville Plage called the Hotel des Isles.......Jersey was not that many miles away and visible.
Here is a little local clour from the Monday market at Briquebec.....I love French markets.....

Spotted this RS recreation outside the Hotel des Ormes in Cateret......the sister hotel to the one were staying at. It looked rather tasty.......

Barneville Plage...

Cateret.

The Marine Hotel, Cateret.....it has a one Michelin star restaurant which was very good......lovely hotel will certainly go and stay there some time.

We returned via the Normandy Beaches and got the ferry from Caen to Pompey. The Normandy D-Day beaches and the whole area never fails ro move me and it was good to see so many people visiting the museums, war cemeteries and the area in general......"lest we forget".
Here are some pics from the St Mere Eglise Museum and the beaches.

Omaha beach.

At Caen ferry terminal spotted this lovely Bristol.

.....that's all folks.....
