Mini GP through Switzerland...
Discussion
Hi all,
Hoping to go on a three week driving tour with the missus this spring and wondered about the best route to the Italian lakes through Switzerland.
Given that we will probably be going in May I understand the high passes will still be closed. We plan to enter Switzerland after driving through the Black Forest, but which route we should take from there I don't know. Time's not an issue, so I'd rather hit a pass or two if we can rather than the motorways.
Similarly, coming back, my wife wants to see some of the French Riviera around St Tropez etc. What's the most scenic route back at this time of year?
Any suggestions welcome.
Cheers
Jono
PS. Can't wait to take the GP abroad and see what the Italians make of it! It WAS the last car hand-built by Bertone in Italy so they should appreciate it!!!

Hi Jono,
I did a similar thing with the Mrs early June last year. There was a fair bit of snow but all the passes were open.
We set off from Sarnen, lovely hotel on the lake - let me know if you want a link. Then travelled to Bormio in a day taking in the Furkapass, Oberalpass, Fluelapass (the one from the Top Gear episode), Ofenpass, then up Umbrail and down Stelvio.
Stopped in Bormio, before heading to Lake Garda for a few nights.
The route:

From Lake Garda we hit the autostrada about 7:30 and were in Monaco just after lunch, via Brescia, Piacenza, Savona.
Great trip, although the autstrada was a long slog. Doing a variation of it again (different Lake) soon I hope!
Hope it gives you some ideas...

I thought that was quite restrained for Switzerland - a country where owning a car with performance modifications is illegal.Gassing Station | Roads | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
