What the hell have they done to J3 on the M55? Arggh
Discussion
Some bright spark (@ Lancashire County Council?) has 'improved' the road layout as you approach J3 on the M55 so that it now takes 30 minutes to queue up and get onto the motorway from the south side at rush hour. I won't bore you with details but effectively the two lane approach to the roundabout is now one lane and the two lane roundabout is now one lane... How is that an improvement? I mean how do they come up with these plans and what were they trying to achieve? The first couple of days I drove through this mess I thought the extra delays were down to people not being sure what was going on, but now I realise that if I try to commute home at a normal time, I'm going to lose over an hour of my life every week.
I know it's small and petty and this probably isn't the place, but wanted to rant and this was the only place I could think of to do it. I may even write a stiff letter if only I could work out who to send it to..
OK - get back to reading about welsh B roads now. As you were..

Probably the same idiot who thought it would be a good idea for the M3 to go down to single lane where it meets the M25 at Junction 3....
Yep - and reduce the sliproad from the M25 to the M4 to 1 lane, and the sliproad form the M4 to M25 south to 1 lane, etc....I expect it's all done on the name of safety... but dear god do they really not appreciate the impacts of what they do?
Err.. well, obviously not I suppose is the answer to my own question.

kers!Well I did write a letter (well email) though I kept it pretty polite to be honest (I wanted a proper reply rather than a "thank you for your interest - now p1ss off" response..)
I even got a reply pretty quickly (from the contractor the highways agency has farmed this owrk out to) which looked pretty comprehensive. Some of it even made sense.
The final paragraph hinted that there may be hope:
"In the light of the information provided by yourself and others, the traffic
queues on each approach to the roundabout have carefully monitored (sic) and a
revision to the scheme is now proposed.
Thank you for bringing the matter to our attention."
I'm not going to hold my breath though..
