We had been planning a road trip leaving next thursday (13 May), taking in:
Day 1 - Calais - Morez

Day 2 - Morez - Lake Garda

Day 3 - Lake Garda

Day 4 - Lake Garda

Day 5 - Lake Garda, Bormio, Stelvio, Davos

Day 6 - Davos - Interlarken

Day 7 - Interlarken - Gerardmer

Day 8 - Gerardmer, Brussels, Calais.

Anyway I now have concerns about the weather and the amount of mountain passes that are still closed. The idea was we'd enjoy good weather with the roof down but looking at various webcams there's still 4-6 ft of snow on the roads at the top of Stelvio.

As well as that the weather at Lake Garda looks as crap as it is here, so do we cut our losses (we haven't booked any accomodation) and stay in France, taking in Route Napoleon, Monaco etc...

Any suggestions??

It would appear they are trying to get the Stelvio open early this year, over the weekend they did start to clear it and you could see tarmac, like you say though a couple of foot as fallen again since then, so I think you will need a large dose of lady luck.

That looks great, and promising weather conditions!
I've now decided to avoid the swiss/italian alpes and stick to the provence alpes, might try and check out the vosge mountains on the way down
