In the process of moving there to a place nr. Sevenoaks... Complete with newly fettled Cerbera smile

Thought I'd put out a speculative post looking for the best and the worst of what's around there; bad spots to steer clear of, and perhaps more importantly, where to head for on an impromptu hoon...!

Welcome any local knowledge....

Welcome to the Garden of England, Sevenoaks area has lots of hooning opportunities and Brands Hatch just down the road. Lots of great village pubs for mid hoon refreshment.

Welcome to Kent! Lots of good roads around Sevenoaks. I like the roads between Sevenoaks and Edenbridge and the roads around Tunbridge Wells into Sussex. Generally I have to say that the roads arounds Sevenoaks are depressingly crowded and therefore while the roads themselves are good, the conditions are not. The further south you head, the better the roads get for real-world driving in my view.

Do tell.....

I cant find anything remotely as interesting as other parts of the country.

Good but not great roads. The good ones are also crammed full of the 40mph types.

Mixed opinions! Typical though... but generally speaking, we seem to be of the opinion that the better roads are further down toward the coast (?) or 'south' at least... smile

Although sevenoaks area has some nice roads, the problem is getting round the slower traffic with limited overtaking opportunities, and since the snow a fair few potholes! Less of a problem on a bike, but in a car it can be a pain to get round things as the roads are generally narrow.

Further out into kent it's worth checking out the A20 towards ashford, it can be busy but it's wide and open so some great overtaking opportunities and police presence can be seen from miles away!

Over from the A20 the A262 can be quite good fun as can the A28

Heading west a bit the A265 is also good fun on a bike so imagine would be ok in the car too.

You could then head back up on the A22 towards A25 & then back home

Plenty to choose from :-)

Sticks.

AFAIK TVRCC has an excellent group locally where you'll get plenty of ideas, I'm sure.

A265 Hawkhurst to Heathfield v pleasant, or through Ashdown Forest, and down towards Romney Marsh are good.

Welcome to Kent. Cameras on A21 nr M25 and immediately N of Tonbridge iirc.

I happen to live in Edenbridge, and have to say the roads around here are fantastic, especially to where I used to live in Kent (Sittingbourne/Faversham). The road from Edenbridge up through Four Elms and on to Sevenoaks is a good one, especially up to Ide Hill. Also the road from Westerham, up through Hosey Common and down into Crockham Hill/Edenbridge is another particularly good one, but a bit short.

I drive along the B2027 from Four Elms, through Chiddingstone and Leigh into Tonbridge everyday which is a decent road, though I guess the novelty has worn off slightly for me now!

The A264 from East Grinstead into Tunbridge Wells is a good one too, being an A road its wider with more overtaking places too!

wavey from a fellow Cerbera owner.

Fair opinion, but it's a plain old A road isn't it ?

No hills, no sharp bends, so nothing special in my view.

I suspect you'd have to be on it sometime between
midnite and 6am to avoid the almighty crowds of the
40 mph club pottering about, wouldn't you ?

When my girlfriend and I used to live apart, I used to sometimes take the more scenic route (using the A264), after 10pm and it would be fairly quite then. As soon as you come out of East Grinstead there are a few tight corners, switching back on each other, then up towards Hammerwood is not too bad.

I'll admit though, there are better roads.

not a plain old A road at all, leaving East grinstead it goes 40MPH and is narrow and twisty, then goes NSL and opens up for a couple of fairly long straights, the second uphill with a nice left right combo at the top, then it gets nice and twisty for a short while before opening up again for a blat past the golf course, a few minor bends and a nice long stright for overtaking, then gets twisty again as it drops down to Ashurst, past Ashurst it is quite narrow and has got some nice stand on the brakes 90 degree corners.
not that I know it well....
you can then turn right at the end for a blat through Ashdown Forest (Beware the deer! seen a quite few prangs) or turn left just before the end to head onto some nice b-roads to Chiddingstone, Penshurst and towards Tonbridge.

The back roads from Sevenoaks down to East Grinstead are pretty damn fine too

A circular tour - best done early morning or in the evening to avoid the 40mph everywhere crowd.

B2042 Bessell's Green (Riverhead) - Edenbridge
B2026 Edenbridge - King's Standing on Ashdown Forest
B2188 King's Standing - Fordcombe - Penshurst
B2176 Penshurst - Chiddingstone Causeway
B2027 Chiddingstone Causeway - Leigh - Hildenborough
B245/A225 Hildenborough - Sevenoaks

Do the evening run the opposite way round and stop off at the Woodman in Goathurst Common (on the B2042).
Pick the right day + time and there will be other Tivs there.
