Yes, but it depends how high you go.

Low level stuff like the Brenner is open all year round.

High level stuff like the Stelvio, I've seen -2C with snow in July.

Check your weather forecast daily and make sure you've got
a Plan B if Plan A fails.

Pot luck, We had snow up the Furka last year around mid sept but then it was glorious sunshine on the Grossglokner a couple of days later.

Thats when we are going, should be around the Alps on august 24th/25th. We are doing Stelvio, Grimsel, Nufenen, Furka and anything else we can fit in before heading to Spa for the f1, cant wait biggrin

As said before you can have snow in the Alps at anytime.

However first major snow in the high Alps is normally late Oct/early Nov.

Being one of the highest passes in Europe, the weather can be very, very variable on the Stelvio - much more so than the lower passes.

It's over-rated anyway wink

Link to updated webcam is here:

Weather isn't too bad at the moment.

Oh, and to the original poster - my trip to the Alps last year started mid September. Only a couple of days rain in the French Alps, but otherwise, the weather was perfect biggrin

went over Stelvio last week, there was remains of snow from the previous week, it was very wet and very cloudy and other than being able to say you've done it I really wouldn't bother, looks good on photo's but there's no joy in driving in 2nd gear through fog for a couple of hours!

I'm planning to ride Stelvio on the bike next weekend, so hopefully it clears up by then!

If not, we'll have to settle for the 'tour du Mont Blanc' - Grand St Bernard is looking perfect at the moment

We did Stelvio last Wednesday at at 9am it was heaving with buses, cyclists and dawdlers taking in the view so you need to do it very early in the day or in the evening!
