Am going in september and wondering what the roads are like over there? anyone got any tips or good routes?
currently i have found this which sounds good!!

The Vrsic Pass...
"After Trenta the serious climbing starts; 50 hairpin bends later you arrive at the summit of The Vršic Pass (1611) where you can enjoy wonderful views."

"The road continues down another 50 or so switchbacks to Kranjska Gora."

So this sounds a good start but does anyone else have any other routes?
Thanks in advance
Matt

I dropped in via the Wurzen pass (very steep for a long time with few hairpins in contrast to most Alpine passes); the Vrsic was brilliant and left via the Passo de Predil.

Some of the roads/passes between Cortina and Slovenia were good fun too as were the passes between Italy and Austria - the Plocken pass in particular was a little bumpy but deserted and highly entertaining.

I've done the route in question - but in a hired Grande Punto diesel. The road was ok I suppose although fairly wooded in most areas so you don't get the Stelvio-type views until you are near the pass itself, which is spectacular. I had Mrs Tgr in the passenger seat so wasn't going to go fast because it's guaranteed to induce vomiting as you will see if you look at the route in detail.

One other thing - plenty of wannabe kings of the mountain cyclists so watch out for them. Similarly believe it or not coaches attempt that trip, and the road is scarcely wide enough for them

There'll probably be some quite nice roads on the Italian side around Tarvisio or perhaps Sauris but I haven't had a chance to find out.

Let us know how you get on

[edit: don't forget to bring sweaters. Even at the height of summer, the pass is so high up that it can get pretty cold - certainly enough to spoil a potentially spectacular holiday memory. Ask me how I know!]

I haven't been there in over 20 years.

Cracking place then. Cheap end of the Alps.

Cobbled hairpin bends in the Triglav area.
Many roads built during WW1 by POW labour.

Tour any of Bovec, Kobarid, Soca, Chuisaforte( I),
Tarvisio (I), Pontebba (I).

That's just the western end of Slo, near the I/A border.

Eastern end, Maribor way, I don't know so well.
