Evening... I am in the rather wonderful position of having use of a friend's V8 Vantage for a couple of days soon - I am based in North Hampshire and am looking for some good roads to enjoy it on, not to v-max it but preferably some flowing A-roads that avoid too many busy towns etc. A scenic route with an overnight stop somewhere would be perfect, but need to be happy with parking arrangements as I really don't want to spend the night staring out of the window to make sure the car's safe!

Anyone got a good route?

Personally I'd put the effort in going over to Wales for either the Brecon's or further North for the EVO triangle, good V8V roads in Wales smile

Whereabouts in the south? I'd probably suggest heading away too. Either Wales or further west. Your chance of finding decent roads in the south dramatically increases once you get west of, say, Bournemouth and it becomes truly rural. The New Forest should be good in theory but it's way too busy, there aren't that many roads and it's a blanket 40mph limit. Dunno what there is around the downs. Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds was, again, promising but busy.

How about: cross country through Dorset and Somerset (Zig Zag Hill type area) to Exmoor and find a B&B. Then drive across Exmoor, down to Dartmoor, across to the far side and back the second day?

Thanks - I like the west country suggestion - was not expecting anything that fits the bill nearby really, although there are a couple of short routes out to the west of Reading they are really short bursts that were good fun on the Ducati but not much of a challenge on four wheels. I have already considered the EVO route but TBH I want to keep the mileage as reasonable as poss since it's a friend's car.

I reckon a quick blast down the M3, then the A303 gets me out into the countryside proper fairly quickly. Will then head for north Devon and try some of the suggestions above.

Fair point and very understandable, the thing with the V8 Vantage is you just don't want to stop driving it smile I've done over 5k in mine since April and its meant to be a second car but it has done more miles than my daily hack biggrin

Something like this...

You could get off the A303 earlier than that and explore more of Dorset/Wiltshire too. The roads are likely to be pretty busy anywhere in August, but the minor roads are generally quieter barring the odd lost tourist.

M3 - A303 - turn off at Stonehenge and head across Salisbury Plain through Shrewton and Chitterne to the A36, then up to Bath for the evening. Second day head south to Cheddar Gorge, enjoy the V8 burble up and down the gorge, then back east to some of the Dorset roads (zig-zag hill perhaps), or down to the South Coast for some good photo opportunities.
