Bradford to essex
Discussion
Im off to Bradford on Friday to pick up my new motor and would like some suggestions for the route back rather than the boring motorways. We'll be travelling back on the saturday morning.
oh, and while you at it maybe somewhere to drive once we get the car on friday afternoon,ie Good driving roads, lovely scenery etc.
Since ive never been this far north before it would be nice to see some areas.
thanks Nos

Head south out of Bradford and get onto the other side of Huddersfield to the A6024 and the B6105. That takes you over Holme Moss and then down into a valley full of reservoirs before coming to Glossop.
Turn left at the first crossroads in Glossop and head onto the A57 (Snakes Pass) and then maybe turn right at Ladybower reservoir and head down through the Peak District towards Bakewell and Matlock?
Basically, get your arse over Holme Moss and down through the Peak District! Some amazing roads that a Southerner can only dream of driving
edit: Holme Moss. I just love this pic!

Leading on from Shay's suggestion, I would try:
A641 out of Bradford to Huddersfield
A616 to Honley
A6024 thorough Holmfirth to Woodhead
A628 then B6105 to Glossop
A57 Snake Pass to Ladybower
A6013 through Bamford, A6187 to Hathersage
B6001 to Calver
A623 to Baslow
A619, B6012 to Rowsley
A6 to Ambergate
A610 to M1
Takes around 2 and a half hours depending on traffic, although Holmfirth to Glossop is always a quiet route.
