Well the answer is obviously, you don't know where they are.

My point is that the members map shows almost all of the country covered with people who enjoy driving. And yet, there is nowhere that each member's knowledge is pooled for the collective enjoyment of your road tax.

Topics of "your favourite road", interesting though they are, usually feature Stelvio or the A686 or Snake Pass. There are probably about have a dozen great loops on my doorstep, one of which is the B660; a biker's favourite now apparently monitored from the air.

Is there no means of posting (and most importatnly organising) a list of enjoyable roads? It would cost a few quid to drive every road local to me just to find the good ones so shirley there must be a better way...

Thoughts?

i'm part of a kit car club and we have tried to do this - every new member does get asked for roads /routes for one map and another shows eateries/places of interest for a drive out etc - the real result - approx 1-40 offers anything up. That said even though our map is 'locked' to non members there's always the thought about 'giving away' info about a bit of road that might in time become abused by some who are less considerate.....ie/ the tasty little B road that suddenly becomes a bit of a haunt for guys who might draw unwanted attention by being a bit over zealous with their right foot.
With our map it's really been populated in the main by a few of us adding that detail in after doing a random run, and even then looking at it i'd say that most roads are obvious ones.
Aside from the roads it amazes me that folks can't be bothered to shout out a few cafes/pubs etc for the other map - in reality that also makes planing a route whether for a morning blat or a family trip much easier. I recently asked for help planning a road trip in the UK on about 4 forums, essentially just needed an idea of roads def not to do and those that ought to be looked at. Given how many folks are on those forums and given the trip wasn't in a wild and weird place i had about 20 replies in total....taking into account those that hadn't read/understood the rough direction/route that we're taking that meant about 10-12 useful suggestions ( for a 600 mile trip )!

I would urge caution here, becaus eif there is a well known road for locals hooning on, and lets say a bunch of tourists, for want of a beter word, come along and play, how long before the local bib catch on? Also, there is the danger of having a biggie a la 10penceshort, so just excersise caution guys n gals

While this is true I'd be very surprised if the BiB don't know about it.

For example, one of the main roads I tend to head for if I'm out for a drive is the A507. On a summer's day every other vehicle is a sports car or a fast bike being piloted quite enthusiastically. Not only do the local BiB know this, but they use that very road as one of their main training routes for exactly the same reason that us lot appreciate it.

I would certainly be wary about advertising pre-organised 'hoons' though, because they know (and often not without reason) that people are more prone to showing off in a group. Plus I believe there's an offence that's something along the lines of 'racing on the public road', which carries a much heavier weight than speeding and can basically be applied to any group of people going quickly together.

More than likely chris you are correct, but my point was that if there is an increased level of activity due to people coming to try out this great bit of road, then the bib would take a bit more interest than normal, and catch the locals having a hoon. The a507 is a good road, especially once you get past ampthill

yes

I love that twisty section either side of where the road doglegs near the farm. Possibly my favourite section of road anywhere.
