I've come up with this route as a round trip from Bristol for a day's hoon.

EDIT: Route V.3

Does anyone have any suggestions/improvements for it?

Go up to Garth and take the road to Brecon through Upper Chapel. It's not much further and would be a shame to miss it.

The B4520 is the single best road I've been on in the UK. Might have been a combination of a few things on that day but good lord it's good.

Black mountain didn't really suit my car to be honest, but the scenery is good.

AHHH st. Just managed to loose the route that I'd spend quite a long time working on. Can either of you guys remember what was on there?

The map doesn't display properly for me. If you're heading up towards the Brecon Beacons don't forget to use the B4235 (I think that's its name) from Chepstow to Usk. It's a great driving road that for some reason rarely gets mentioned, and it gets you into proper hoonage from practically the minute you cross the Severn.

OK all fixed now. I've incorporated your suggested changes into it. How does it look now? If there was any part you'd leave out what would it be as it's starting to look a bit too long now?

Thanks

I'm planning to go in 2-3 weeks time when I'm holiday.

This is what I did before xmas and is probably one of the best South Wales routes ive done..

I started at around 10am and it gave me loads of time to stop and take in the views etc and do the Black Mountains road a few times smile

Would be rude not to do the devils chair and llyn briann reservoir on the very north of your journey as you are within a couple of miles (Abergwesyn)

Thanks G Man and others.

Does anyone know whether a Saturday or Weds/Fri would be better for traffic. I'm aiming for an early start and plenty of stops though the day

Going on a weekday seems to make a huge difference - just back from the Beacons and barely saw another car on the mountain passes. The quality of almost all the road surfaces out in that part of the world puts an awful lot of England to shame.
