Doing this trip in a month - any nice particular diversions to take into consideration across that route? I was planning just to take the road that was most direct.

Thanks in advance.

+1

Dunkirk is twinned with Middlesboro, so it's a tad
thin on tourist sights.

Adinkerke for the tobacco shops.

There are some nice beaches in Belgium, Westende for example.

Ostend is Belgian Hull or Felixstowe.

There's a truck stop at Jabbeke, if you've got your
notebook with you.

The coastal strip is noted for being particularly flat,
so no mountain passes.

The beer's pretty good, though.

If you turn off the motorway in Adinkerke, there are a few alternatives - you can drive pretty much along the coast -literally along the beach, which has some nice points - coastal defences, sea views etc. but also some less good bits. You can also follow the canal from Nieuwpoort to Oudenburg and on into Bruges - this is good for a fastish run and not too many places the police can hide away.

Are you travelling to Bruges, or going on further?

I might be up for meeting up for a blat, depending on the date.

Thanks guys I'll have more of nosey at the suggestions - the coastal route sounds like a good idea as kids will be with me. I'll be staying in bruges for a couple of days.
