I was hoping to do some alpine passes through Switzerland but I know Nufenen and Stelvio are closed as is Grossglockner in Austria, which are the 3 I would have really liked to do (I haven't done Gorssglockner or Nufenen yet). The others might be open but I wonder if the conditions are good enough to have a good hoon on them? So I'm thinking it would be better to give the Black Forrest a go.

I will be setting off tomorrow to visit a friend in Luxembourg and then I plan to pass through the black mountains in Germany on the way to Basel (need to be there on Saturday). Could anyone suggest any good routes through the black mountains or anywhere else that could go before hitting Basel on Saturday.

When I finish my work in basel I will have two days to get back to London, are there any fun routes on the way back to Calais through France or would I be better off doing a day trip to Stuttgart to see the Porsche museum and doing some autobahn blasting or heading back through the black mountains instead?

Also to go on the Nurburgring, it says evenings are open from 1730 to 1930, do you just roll up pay and drive?

Karim, we met a while back at a PH meet. I did a run through Alsace and the Black Forest last summer. Have .itns if you'd like?

Another vote for the Route des la Cretes as recommended by G MAN - although Alsace is so beautiful, any green-edged road on a Michelin map will be good. A lot of the villages are delightful and worth stopping at for coffee, lunch etc.

Thankyou for the quick suggestions.
Just thought I'd say these were absolutely cracking roads and having done the alps, Scotland etc the black mountain roads were right up there with them.

I was over in the Black Forest last week and the roads were some of the best I've driven on. I looked longingly at the 990SMs and Dukes in the local KTM dealer.
