Hi. New kid on the block.

Veteran forum poster, but new to this place.

Taking delivery of a 530d GT later this week. Interested to hear tips, comments, p*sstakes, recommendations etc.

What else do you want to know?

Third rule - the MX5 is the perfect car for you if:

- you're 20 and want something fun to slide about in
- you're 90 and want something safe and reliable to drive, with no unpredictability whatsoever
- you're 50 with 4 kids and want to carry them all at the same time
- you need good fuel economy and low speed
- you need high speed, and poor fuel economy doesn't matter

Welcome!

Do you honastly think they are not hideous?!

And why would you buy one over a 530d?, or e320cdi, or a6 tdi?

Obviously not, or he wouldn't have bought one.

A friend of mine has the M5 on order. Not sure when delivery is though. Still on the fence with the looks though they are better than the e60 smile

No - I honEstly don't think they are hideous. They are no Pininfarina beauty, but I like the quirky looks, but then I like the X6 too.

The car is not for everyone, but it's a clever piece of kit. It's based on the latest 7-series platform and with sliding and reclining rear seats means it has X5/5-series touring load space but can also have 7-series 'L' rear legroom. It has an elevated driving position, but has car-like dynamics rather than SUV. It's fantastically well-specc'd. Build quality is stellar (7-series interior) but 5-series pricing.

As for the others.

Normal 530d - less spec, less practical, less value, no great improvement in looks
E320CDI - don't exist anymore. The E350 is an option but looks like a taxi, stuck on boot, expensive, handling worse than even the GT let alone to 5-series.
A6 Tdi - FWD or heavy 4WD, current one as interesting to drive as a sofa and being replaced any day. New one just as ugly as the new A8.

Hope that helps. I suspect not though. But then the opinion of a 20 year old, non-car owning, Capri loving student is probably not BMWs target market....!

Thanks for the genuine reply anyway biggrin
I think you might be correct hehe
Actually saw one this morning in white, can't deny it's a quality built car.
