My bargain barge XJ6
Discussion
I thought I'd share a few quick photo's I took of my new barge.
1993 Jaguar XJ6 3.2 'Sport' (note the inverted commas).
127,000 miles
12 Months MOT
Fully stamped up service book
Exterior very good for what it is.
Interior is, err, not so good.
£385 plus 6 months tax, so £500 all in.
Waftastic!
In addition it came with a mint drivers door to replace the scabby one on it, a genuine Jaguar bulkhead to replace the scabby one, a mint, complete interior out of a 33k write off, a mahogany Daimler 6 steering wheel and loads of other stuff, which the chap is going to deliver to me when I've got space.
And he put a tenner of petrol in it. Legend.
Only minor irritation so far is sometimes the key gets stuck in the ignition, but I think it's something to do with it not being in park properly? any help appreciated on it.
Anyway, a few pics -

Hope you likey

Bargain. What does the new wheel look like? It sounds tasty and the one in there at the moment looks crap
Have a look in the back of the car.
OP, you won't lose any money on that, top shedding

Problem is the Daimler has its horn on a stalk, whereas the Jag has it on the wheel, so you'd need to find some other arrangement (so says the guy I bought the car off). I'll probably just sell it, apparently they make good money, and it is immaculate.
Thanks for the positive comments, it was quite a worrying step buying a cheap, old Jag, but so far (1 day!) so good.

Excellent! I do like to see XJ40s on Piston Heads!
The inverted commas round 'Sport' amused me. I'm not sure which sport Jaguar had in mind ...maybe bowls!
For some reason the leather does not last as well in the Sport models as in the Sovereign and Daimler. The leather is of a different type, more like the X300.
The interior swap is not difficult at all and if the seats are from a higher spec model (electric seats etc) the XJ40 comes pre wired for everything and it just plugs in. One loom covers all cars so they are very easy cars to upgrade. Just make sure the new seats are from a 1993 or 1994 model year car.
If you're not already, it is worth joining www.xj40.com and Jag-Lovers http://forums.jag-lovers.org/index.php3?zx=SdAHzRP...
Both sites have a lot of knowledge on these cars and make owning one much easier and cheaper. They're not difficult to work on and the late cars like yours are very reliable and robust, other than rust.
Enjoy your Jag, they really are like nothing else.

Undoubtedly a bargain at that money. Run it for 12 months then break it/weigh it in and you'd make a few quid.
Won't welding the bulkhead be an engine and dash out job though?
Good buy!
It could well need the dash to be taken out, depending on where the rust is and how bad it is. The dash is a clever modular design and fairly easy to remove on these cars. The guy doing the welding should be able to do it with the engine in situ. Jaguar recommended the engine should be lowered, but few actually do that.Won't welding the bulkhead be an engine and dash out job though?
Good buy!
