Picking this up tomorrow:


It's only 2 years younger than me

No power steering, power brakes etc. Makes you realise how spoiled you are with modern cars.

Has a dodgy gear linkage (difficult to engage 2nd) which I believe is a common fault

The linkage is common, I think a whole replacement set is about £40.

I got a few from a newish model from the scrappers

Bit of both I reckon. Frugal motoring for the crazy work miles I need to do in the next couple of months and then I'll maybe take it off the road to fix/clean it up and punt it on.

Paintwork is in a sorry state though and I think maybe beyond what I can correct

Brilliant. These, 205's and Saxo's are so much better than some supposedly superior cars like Polo's and Fiestas etc.

Parts prices for the Peugeots and Citroens are really good with good availability, and best of all they dont rot half as much as said Polo's or Fords.

The other thing is - they are actually ridiculously fun to drive, and the 1.1 at least (not sure about 1.0 think its an older 205 aged engine) are not even that slow.

I love it. Would be great for Autotesting too...

I need a Haynes manual for it so I can think about doing the speedo cable and/or gear linkage. Don't really want to pay full price for one though

I'm led to believe they're pretty easy to work on, but I do suffer from a spanner allergy

Superb little car! Apart from the tiny pedals, they are such a fun car to drive!

£5 and some swearing and now both wipers work - had to adjust the linkage slightly on the driver's side.

So refreshing not being afraid of messing around with stuff like that.

Just bought that Haynes manual for £3.49 delivered
