Mk2 Golf GTI TSR Silverstone 2.1

Hi Guys
MDT and I recently finished restoring my Oak Green Mk2 16v which is running like a dream.
However, my interest was pricked when looking through the classifieds and I ended up buying this on Monday
It's a 1991 Golf GTI with a few goodies fitted, such as a TSR Silverstone 2.1 engine, uprated short shift gearbox and clutch, Brembo 4 pot 305mm calipers, Koni adjustables and a stainless exhaust.
It has also been repainted in Pearl White which looks not too bad.
Apart from the above, it is all original
It is an absolute blast to drive, with a completely linear wall of power through the gears - the acceleration just doesn't let up as you are changing up the gears.
I love it!

Quality, further evidence that mk2s are finding good homes and being kept alive!
The spec on the 16v sounds pretty dam good with some smart upgrades. Those old TSR engines are pretty sought after as the original price tag would have been circa £3k, I expect it should be kicking out 180-200hp if its been properly set up.

Mr Ecosse and I were surmising that it would be in the 170-180bhp mark. But as it is one of the last MK2’s with the full electronic injection and that TRS fitted the unit there is a fairly good chance that they did the full job of setting it all up. It dose go very well aka_kerrly said:

The suggestion of electronic ignition would tie that up.
More likely to be 150ish bhp if so.

Will get it rolling roaded with MDT to see what it is putting out.
I forgot to mention, it sounds great with some lovely pops and bangs on the over-run and, best of all, you get flames out of the exhaust when changing up whilst pushing on. Perfect!

Cheers. I know what you mean about the colour, but it doesn't look too bad as it is quite close to the original white. Especially when it is dirty I have some original side repeaters on order too, and I love the aerial in the front wing - the perfect Q car

My bad, I had my circuits muddled (pun intended for those familiar with TSR engines), It's the Thruxton which is the 2.1 16v
Still a good 8v set up should still give you in the region of 150hp but please refrain from mentioning how the 8v has so much torque ;-)

Was a great car though:
1985 Mars Red Mk2 with full G60 90'Spec bodywork, 16" Fondamentals, Full TSR Engine and chassis mods, Factory semi electric Recaro's, Votex console etc....
Conversion was done at 90,000miles and it was ragged right up to the day that I sold it with 167,000 miles on the clock, never missed a beat, infact it just seamed to get stronger and stronger and nicer and nicer.
