My 99 and 69 Minis

[Downton Mini]

Well heres a few picutres of my Minis













The Green Mini is a 1999 Rover Mini with Downton Sport Touring Conversaion carried out from new it os No 1 of 5!! I brought it new in 1999. It has a stage 3 head, 5 speed 'box, adjustabl;e suspension, rear anti roll bar,4 pot calipers and grooved dics ion the front It had specila leather interior which I have changed to be copbra seats to give more support. ( i have the original seats still) I have fitted the chrome spot lights, and MKi grille to give the retro look I have a 60's roof rack I use when I go camping with the Mini. Ialso changed the original sportsd pack wheels for the gold centred superlites.

The blue Mini was my first car and I still have it

Thanks heres some more picutres of the blue one: A 1969 Morris MKII Super Deluxe 1000 cc Restored some 15 years ago by my dad, mom brother and myself first car we;d ever done including spraying!! Fairly standard apart form chrome hinges, white roof, Stage 1 kit and RC40 Exhuast oh and its still on hydrolastic suspension and drums all round!!

I love driving both of them for different reasons the MKII requires lots of concetration with the drums etc but round town its a hoot while the Downton is at its best on fast winding roads having fun with bigger cars in the bends. I keep thinking about sup[ercharging the Downton one day when I have the money I will (maybe)

Lovely prefer the mk1 myself probably as I already have the modified mini would love to own a nice mk1 if had the money with a period style tuned engine in meant to be a whole different ball game to drive on 10's compared to the bigger wheels...

Yep 10's are a better drive to be honest its easy to turn round lol The Gownton runs 13 x 7 so slightly wider then standard and it tends to follow the ruts in the road etc. I had to lift the suspension last year after a winter of driving round in a MK5 golf ( the daily load lugger) I got in the Downton and thought I was going to break my back lol

My dream Mini would have to be a Downton tuned 1071 S in Almond Green on 10" Dunlop D1's (I have tghe D1's just nopt the 1071 S

Especially love your MK11, the original wheels really suit it.

To be honest I love the Hydrolastic suspension its quite smooth. I have a few mods to do to mine I have a set of 7.5 dics and hubs to put on and the Dunlops D1's too. I also have (if my brother lets me have it a Downton head for it too.

I love the MKII's as they're probally the rarest of the MK's only being produced for 3/4 years

My brother has a 68 Hornet with a 1380 under the bonnet he also has a 1999 Downton Sport 40 and we have a 63/64 Smooth Roof Mini van project

Yeah i find it's quite nice, it just takes some getting used to. Mine tends to pitch quite heavily under braking and acceleration, though i will be putting some progressive bump stops on the rear and shockers on the front to help sort that.

The Dunlops will look lovely on your car, there was a PH'er on the classic mini section a couple of weeks ago with an Island Blue MK11 Cooper S with the D1's fitted, it looked spot on.

I bet that Hornet is great fun!

The D1's are the only alloys I would fit I just like to be different

Yeah the Hornets good fun wish he'd use it more though.

I wish I could use the Mini's everyday put it would do them more harm then good altough I may buy a MINI in the future that would give the neighbours something to talk about we had to build a 8m x 6m garage to keep the classic in the postman thought it was a bungalow lol

Love your '99 mini (not keen on the colour though, each to their own). I'd absolutely love to have one of these (or a mk1 MX-5) as my next car. But the rust worries me! Lovely interior

Well a couple of weekends ago I wnet to a small show at Grimley Raceway in Worcestershire as io say it was only a small show but all of our club members who attended endtered concourse (not something we normally bother with as we prefer to drive them) but we were talked in to so we had 3 out of 4 of the cars Entered in (NEW) MINI all types and 2 out of 4 in the Classic SPI/MPI Cooper class.

Well my Green one got a secnd in class behind a well known (in Mini Circles) Mini 40 and my bother picked up 3rd with hios black Downton so really pleased about that oh and my 3 friends picked up 1st, 2 nd and 3rd in the MINI class too so a good day all round really and the fact that the raods all roud there were great to helped.

I am off to Cardiff in a coupe of weeks and then Devon for a couple of Mini/MINI runs so I will try and get some pictures may even post a few of the car in 'fancy dress' onnthe Monday run in Devon......

Love the Mini's. I was at Brighton in May for the Fizzy run this year. There seemed to be a Mini run on at the same time.

Were you there. Also how long have you owned the mk1?

Yes there was the London to Brighton Mini Run in mid May I haven't done it for a few years though.

I've owned the MK2 since I was 16 so 15 years now (thats a little scary) and the Downton (Green one) from new in 1999
