My new and old Alfa's

Just got my new company hack last week to replace the old A4. Fancied a Brera for ages, this is a 2.4D. Here it is and with my GT Junior.........

Hows the diesel engine in that? 5 cylinders right? Does it give it a little more smoothness over say a standard 4 pot?

Would be great to hear your thoughts on performance/noise/Economy because the Brera is one of only 2 cars me and missus agree on at the moment. I wouldnt mind a transition back to diesel but only if its measurably better than that new 1750TBi they have for the Brera now (the engine it always should of had!! 2.2 was just too slow). Thing with the Diesel is I can get an older, therefore cheaper, car because they sold that engine right from the beginning.

Lovely car! You are lucky there are zero alfa's on our list so gone for a 320d. I guess you get the economy of a 2.0 with the fuel allowance of a <2.0?! ace :-)

Thanks. Not sure on the smoothness over the 4 pot as I haven't driven it, however it doesn't feel especially smooth. Performance is good, noise is OK but you are definitely aware its a diesel. Not sure on economy at the moment as I've only had it a few days and I've been hammering it a fair bit!
I'm an Alfa man through and through but I probably wouldn't have bought the car if it was my own money and running costs etc (got too many other wallet drainers!). The build quality is poor compared to the Audi and I fully expect some breakages. However, you buy an Alfa with your heart, not your head and it is a beautiful thing to look at and drive so thats enough for me.

Nice little fleet Jimmyjam.
Don't be too hopeful on the economy of the Brenda though, lovely as it is the 5 pot JTD really suffers with all the eco gear and the heavy weight of the later cars.

The Spider is great. Used it as my daily driver for 3 years. Its cheap to run, parts are easy to get, relatively reliable, didn't have much more than any other cars running costs. The LHD to RHD conversion can be a pain with door mirror positions etc but like any Alfa its looks and style make you overlook any faults. Engine noise is disappointing in comparison to most Alfa's.

Loving the Jr. Don't think I have ever seen one in the flesh. Looks lovely in those pics. Should be red though

I'd be aiming for 35-40mpg avaerage on the new one. I'd hope that it would be nearer the 40!

My p1ss is boiling! Yesterday some little scrotes have keyed the Brera, big wavy groove front arch to back . I've only had it 2 weeks, it was unmarked.
Anyone know a scratch repairer in SW London/ Surrey?

That is just mindless Jimmy.

I imagine you are feeling the same as I did when my immaculate M3 had the aluminium doorskin opened up with a screwdriver, although less painful when a company car, a little.
