Paid for this earlier today, pick It up Friday. It's had a new Clutch & CV Boot, all trim pulled off and gave a good clean, brakes and suspension all cleaned up and painted..

It's a Mk2 1.3 Ryder 5 door smile

Plans are to give it a good detail, linseed oil all the plastic trim, lower on coilovers, nice wheels with decent rubber and a few V Dub stickers on the back windows.

What you all think?

Why lower it on coilovers?

V Dub stickers will make you look like a retard. rolleyes

Please don't modify it. There are loads of lowered mk2 Golfs, why ruin one more

Agree with advice given. Keep it std, tidy up any faults (if the fixes are cost effective in relation to it's value) sell it when you can afford to move on probably for what you've paid for it or even a small profit. Alternatively, fit trick suspension and have to fork out more for insurance (or run the risk of getting 6 points or ins cancelled if the BiB stop you and you haven't declared mods) honestly, don't fit stupid stickers which might as well say 'please stop me'
Best way to avoid being stopped by the Police: run a clean, tidy, std car which doesn't make you look like a boy racer. Money spent on mods can be saved up for better cars. BTW, your Golf looks nice as it is. Enjoy.smile

Thankyou. There will be no mods done which can't be put back to standard easily, so won't be 'ruining it' smile
It Is pretty clean though and tbh I only bought it as a stop gap for a few months..

And at £500 makes a good 'snotter' biggrin

Why spend money modding a stop gap shed? Especially if it's for just a few months.

Especially 'those' mods, they'll only devaluate the car.

Looks tidy. Why would lowering it on coilovers devalue it or ruin it in any way?
As standard they look pretty run-of-the-mill and the handling is just attrocious, lowering using good quality kit will help with both of those things and is easily returned to standard.
Don't piss on his chips, for £500 I don't think he needs to worry about it's originality or value!

Lower it yes, but on decent shocks and springs not one of those wky kw coilover kits that make a car handle like a pogo stick. Put some wheels on it but no daft mile wide borbet a's, some g60 steels with some r888's or the like. Put some stickers on it but not dubway or i love speed bumps or other scene ste, some national trust or rspb should get the look. Then just add the following to the list: a tweed hat on the parcel shelf, some of those white plastic door protector strips, 2.0 audi 80 lump on a pair of 45's and some gti brakes with decent pads. Then once that list is complete go hunting the charity shops for leather elbowed jackets and string back driving gloves to complete the look. Just my opinion by the way!

I'd also purchase yourself and the missus a grey wig and some glasses, maybe a yorkshire terrier and a picnic blanket for the back seat?

It's very solid. I had a mars red two door 1.3L about 15 years ago until the heater matrix blew up. That was pretty much like a new car all over and was probably over 15 years old back than, the only flaw was the engine which, quite frankly, wouldn't win a tug of war contest against a custard skin so christ knows what that thing would be like with nearly two more decades worth of wear if I was reunited with it.
My mate also had a 1.3 and that had the weber twin choke carb which helped it along a bit, replacing that shonky old Pierburg which is probably half the reason it felt as flat as a witches tit. The pierburg in my scirocco was a pile of plop too, they are fine when working correct but I'd personally just fit a weber.

Hope the coilies are good quality!!! eBay specials are poo. Weitecs are good at £400 odd.

Wheels wise, some standard width RM's would look nice, or Passat "G60" steels, or some Porsche Fondmentals.

Engine-wise I'd track down a complete cheap polo GT engine, 1.3 MPI, 75bhp from the box, but can see 90 with a 4-branch, 8kRPM chip an filter! 100 odd with a cam! Not far off 8v GTI power but still cheap to run, tax and insure! Keep your current gearbox for taller ratios.
