Thought i would mark the occasion of my Escort's 18th Birthday today by slapping a few pics up in Readers Cars 
Still going strong after all these years and not looking too bad on it
Those in the southern half in the country that like to take part in PH Runs and Sunday Services etc may have seen her as she is in regular use for those kind of events and i'm convinced that it's that regular Sunday useage that keeps her atleast 'reasonably' reliable 
........... touch wood there have been no issues this year other than regular maintenance.
........ and by far the best time i had with the car was taking her to Wales on a Petrolhead Nirvana Tour where she just kept me smiling the whole time ( see last 2 pics)
Biggest expense so far has been having to replace a straight cut 6 speed dog box that gave up with a loud bang and has now been replaced with a straight cut synchro box that so far is holding up without any complaints whatsoever............ long may it last
She may see a bit of paint on the front end this winter and maybe a top up to the underside protection but nothing major is needed fortunately

Your brakes alway make me chuckle I think a fag paper between the caliper and the wheel at the front is about right

It is true that the clearance between the caliper and the wheel isn't the best
In fact i have a few scores on the inside of the wheel where bits of grit try to get through but don't quite make it

To answer some of the other questions i've had this one for about 3 years now though it is my second Red one and i had the previous one 6 years....... that was a later small turbo model.
Standard 16" wheels are nice but no use to me anymore as they won't come close to clearing these brakes....... there is an 18" reproduction of the original wheels which i would love to have but even they don't give enough clearance for the 380mm discs
...... and yes the instrument binnacle is modified with a Stack Dash in place of the original clocks and a Pectel ECU monitor sits in the place of the stock boost gauge. In fact an analogue boost gauge is about the only instrument i'm missing though i recently sourced one that's waiting to go in........ it's not easy to find one that reads high enough
