Aston Martin V8 Oscar India
Discussion
Prompted by another thread I was asked to do a readers cars bit about my New Aston.
In 1978 AM decided to improve the quality of their V8 saloon, so the series IV was introduced in the October of that year. It became known as the 'Oscar India' and is regarded by many as the best incarnation of the model.
Oscar India being the intials related to October introduction.
This one was born in January 79 and has since gone through 12 keepers.
I have a full history of the car including many invoices for many thousands, with a lot of work being carried out in the last few years.
OK so it is not a Vantage, but it is still mighty quick. In reality this type of car these days is still quick, but that is not what it is all about. I have 'quick' in my E55k I have practical in my Disco 3, I also have historical in my Series 1 Landy (Towed the winning bobsleigh in the 1964 Olympics)and in the Aston I have timeless elegance and a car that is an occasion to drive.
What is it like to live with?
Well a few years ago I bought a cheap Series 3 V8 (£13,000 in 2003) and ran it for two years. In truth it was a little shabby if you knew what to look for! In that car I never failed to arrive at my destination......although more than a few times bits were not working on arrival.
I let it go in 2005 as I knew it needed more money than I had to fettle it.
Now times have changed for me, my mind turned back to V8's and I wanted to buy the best I could. If I had gone for a Vantage it would have been at the bottom end of the scale, so I thought why not get the top end of the OI series.
All I can say is I am once again smitten.
From the moment you open the boot, turn on the electrics and step inside you know that you are in for a treat. The smell of the leather is intoxicating, followed shortly by the roar as the engine starts. The sound of the engine on full chat is an aural feast.
It is sure footed in the bends and comfortable on a cruise, it is not an all out sports car, it is a Grand tourer.
So time for a couple of pictures.....

and for those Landy buffs

Magnificent! I adore these things, they're just proper. It's such a shame that AM don't make them like this any more, for me the last real Astons were the 1990s V8s.
What's it like to drive compared to others cars you've owned or tried? I imagine it feels very heavy and solid while being a little bit too powerful for its chassis and tyres.
