Well its been an interesting couple of months! First the head gasket went on my car, pulled over just in time as there was no visible damage to the head. Luckily my mate who used to own the car already had a head gasket ready for when it went and is a mechanic so he fitted it for the fee of just £40!
Literally two days after the head gasket was fixed the clutch cable snapped!I got another clutch cable off eBay for just £9 and spent 3 hours fitting it as the bolts which bolts it to the bulkhead where totally inaccessible! Much swearing followed haha. Now this is a known fault so I kept the old snapped clutch cable and am going to modify it by welding an eyelet at the end which I can then just bolt to the clutch pedal linkage.
I also decided to have a crack at designing my own custom cold air intake system as the standard airbox is placed directly above the exhaust manifold so just sucks in hot air constantly. So again I went onto eBay and found a BMC CDA filter for just £35!
A lot of air intake systems for the Cinquecento use the round airbox off the 899cc Cinquecento. I wanted to use the airbox but I feel the intake on the round airbox is too restrictive so I was going to redesign the airbox and make it myself. It is going to be based on the intake but with a larger intake pipe to match the size of the BMC intake Im doing it this way so that I can plumb in the breather pipe and the other thing which is inside the standard airbox. There will then be a section of tubing from the filter down to a trumpet which I will mount in the bumper next to the towing hook.
So today I test fitted an 899cc airbox to get an idea of dimensions, and sizes that tubing is going to have to be. Its just a test fitting so its all bodged on for now. For example gaffa tape is currently securing the airbox to the filter and also to hold the breather pipe into a hole I drilled in the side.
Im planning on replacing the cardboard covering the coilpack with some sheet steel so im going to put a couple of mounts on there to secure the filter too.
