Thought I'd put up my little Starlet, seeing as I've just finished doing a load of work on it during the summer holidays from uni.

Well anyway I bought it completely standard (near enough standard, had a dumpvalve and dixie horn fitted!) way back in May 2010, as my first ever car purchase for the mighty sum of £1900 on an eBay auction, the Golf being a hand me down.

Since about January I'd been scouring the internet for bargains and slowly been gathering parts, after which in April I won an exhaust on eBay and bought some coilovers, and so I fitted them pretty much immediately as it isn't that big a job, and doesn't require the car being off the road for long.

But in July after collecting some more items and finally have the time off from university, I started doing the proper work.

So far I've fitted/done:
Meister Zeta R coilovers
Japspeed catback exhaust
TD04 downpipe
TD04 SS tubular exhaust manifold
Japspeed FMIC
HKS SSQV dump valve
HKS mushroom style airfilter/intake
New clutch
New gaskets
New bolts
New number plate
Front bumper cut outs
Oil pressure/oil temperature/boost pressure gauges
New stereo
New actuator (the one on the turbo failed, so recently had to fit a new one, was a bit of a pain!)

Also I've removed the airconditioning (needed to so I could fit the bigger turbo) and I've removed the dixie horn (it stopped working frown).

Still have some more bits to buy/fit, as the wish list shows:
Injectors - already have these (460cc RX7 injectors)
3 Bar MAP Sensor
Apexi AFC Neo - waiting to be fitted
Magnecore Leads
Wideband Lambda
Fuel Pump
Sparkplugs

And then to be mapped! Will hopefully be looking to achieve around the 220-230bhp mark at 1.1 bar at the flywheel. Which should be pretty fun in a car that weighs a smidge over 900kgs! Will probably have to look at upgrading the brakes after that.

Anyway some pics:

It may not be to everyones taste, but I'm a poor student, and thus haven't really bothered with the exterior nor indeed will the exhaust be to anyones taste but I wanted a decent quality straight through system and at £145 on eBay, I couldn't say no. I'll probably fit a different back box on sometime though, maybe a 3 inch out rolled or something.

Oh and there's a few other bits different now to the photos, notably the number plate has been changed and the bumper cut out to allow more air for the intercooler and the silicon hoses have been replaced with black ones.

Anyway hope you enjoyed it but unfortunatly my time to play with the car is drawing to a close, as I start back at uni onto the 3rd year of Mechanical Engineering soon!

I love these cars. Very sleeper-ish with a standard exterior to those who don't know what they are.

But please change those steelies, they ruin the car a bit. Although I suppose they do add to the sleeper look.

Great car. Any photos of the exhaust fitted? It looks like a good one, I love big Jap cannon exhausts. Some photos of the interior would be great too, if you have any!

Looks like a fun wee car. Also, the engine bay looks surprisingly commodius given all the turbo gubbins and small exteral appearance.

Great little cars I had a fresh import years ago, wolf in sheeps clothing even as standard as they punch way above their weight - once mapped yours will fly with 200bhp+.

Keep up the good work!

Great little cars, My best mate used to run an earlier Starlet and I was always surprised how capable it was.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. It is a great little car to fling about, been out for a drive today in it and it sounded fantastic now with the TD04 spooling up, and sucking in the air!

I'll get some pics up of the interior and exhaust sometime, maybe tomorrow.

I loved mine at 200bhp. It seems a nice round figure for Glanzas smile

Loved the wastegate chatter on these too.

A front entry TD05 would but i would of thought it will be very laggy. TD04 spins up much earlier!

Ah yes im not surprised on the little motor. I was only thinking out loud as TD05s go for peanuts (around £100-£150) on the MLR.

I really like these cars. Kind of like a more modern / reliable Renault 5 gt turbo.

Yours looks top smile

I sold a mint TD04 on scoobynet for £45 a couple of years ago. It was always the 05's that fetched more money unless things have changed? They share the same exhaust flanges in any case.

Ah that is cheap! Yeah not seen a TD05 for quite that little, seen ones go for £100 though.

For now the TD05 would be of no benefit, at the moment for instance it's only running on 0.5 bar. And any more than 1.1 bar, which the TD04 is quite capable of doing nicely, then you need to look at forged internals, which is getting a bit too pricey for me, and I'd rather look at buying things like an lsd, or a WMS brake kit before that. Oh and on another note the TD04 was free!

Anyway some pictures of how it looks now:

As you can see now the front bumper has been cut out (had to do this to fit the boost pipes), did this with a dremel and a cutting disk, worked out perfectly, and I'm very happy with the way it now with the different number plate.

I'm unsure about the exhaust I personally think it's too big, but it does fit nicely and is a quality system.

From the inside the old horrible touch screen head unit has been replaced with a very nice Pioneer system, much less awkward to use now whilst driving. I've also placed the oil temperature, oil pressure, and boost pressure gauges down there, as I personally don't like the A-pillar mounted ones.
