1991 Eunos Roadster V-Spec

If you're reading this and you saw my Range Rover thread, you're probably thinking the same as I still am, golly, that's a bit different 
Sadly after getting the Range Rover how I wanted it, it ended up being the wrong car at the wrong time. I've got a 90 mile a day commute currently, and it didn't make financial sense for me to either drive it every day, or pay 2 lots of tax, mot and insurance by having a daily snotter. So, I had to put her up for sale and get a sort of, 'jack of all trades'.
I looked at all kinds, 106 GTi's, Clio Sports, Volvo T5's, Saab 93's, 530d's, Cupra R's, Type-R's, and ended up with a 20 year old Japanese ragtop. Ah well.
I think what attracted me to it, was that it's SO different to everything else I've had before. I've never had a manual RWD car, I've never really had a sportscar, a 2 seater, or a convertible.
I also liked it's simplicity. I don't like having to pay other people to work on my car if I can do it myself, the MX is a simple set up, and parts are plentiful and cheap. Obvious hairdresser image aside, it's a bit of a hoot really, far more than I was expecting. It's very raspy, so I may fettle the exhaust a bit, but apart from that it's in good order.
It's an import then, and cosmetically, it's decent. It's 'Neo Green' and has had a fairly recent respray. It's pretty good, but there are a few marks if you look hard. Underneath is waxoyled and seems solid from a quick poke about. Being a V-Spec, it has electric windows, A/C and PAS. The pop up headlights are a novelty that hasn't got old yet

So in a nutshell, it's a bit quirky, really good fun to drive, and although it's not particularly quick, it feels faster than it is

well then, bit of a baptism of fire. I've had the car a week now, so how am I finding it?
On the plus side, it's a lovely little thing to drive from a handling point of view, and good fun on the B-Roads. Whenever the suns out, which I've been lucky with this week, it's great fun to get the roof down, and it genuinely makes it a "fun" little car. It's also fantastic on fuel for what I need. Currently, driving like a "yoof" and enjoying the novelty of revving it silly, I'm still getting 34.6mpg.
On the downside...
It's a million miles from the barge spec cars I'm used to driving, and I do miss the luxury of the Range Rover. I didn't realise how much I used cruise control either lol. It's not uncomfortable, and I'm not struggling with the commute, it's just not a Range Rover, but that was always going to happen with anything lol.
Mechanically, I bought the car with a rattly cat. One decat later, and it appears it's not the cat at all, but a mysterious gearbox rattle, that seems to come from the gearbox not being correctly re-aligned with the power-plant frame that connects the diff to the gearbox. I've done my best to re-align this correctly, and the noise is better, but it's still there, and detracts from the experience somewhat.
The exhaust is also very raspy, so I've ordered some bits and I'm having a new one made this weekend. Sadly when I was underneath re-aligning the gearbox I had a poke about and made my way through a small section of the floor near the front of the drivers sill. It's not much, but it'll need doing and I didn't particularly want to be welding it. Such as life lol.
So, apart from that, it's been plain sailing, it starts on the key, does what I need, it's a bit fun, it just has a hole in it, rattles, and sounds like a bag of proverbial. Hopefully that'll get sorted at the weekend, with an exhaust, filter, gearbox fluid change, and general fettling!
