My Mine Site Site TOYOTA HILUX

Hello all,

Longtime lurker and reader of this site, first time poster. It's nice to finally post here.

Anyway, my name is Tom and I'm a Graduate Geologist in the Queensland Coal Industry doing exploration for a company which my own company contracts Geos too. My company gives me this thing to drive when I'm both on site, or on break. I've been in the job for 3 1/2 months now, and loving it!

As you can see it's a Toyota Hilux. This one is the 3.0 litre Diesel 4 Cylinder Manual. The thing is pretty comfortable and quite alright to drive off road. And it isn't too bad around town, if a little sluggish (really would appreciate a V6 or V8 under that bonnet!). Surprisingly these things, with all the equipment (bull bars, flashing light, cruise control, radio, tyres, reflective tape) are worth $78k Australian (found that out from an internal news letter about someone (don't know who) in the company who hadd rolled theirs and wrote it off in the rain)


The tray is great for lugging my stuff around, backpacker style!

I wanted to know if anyone new what this mount is called? Its used to attach high vis flag that sticks high above the car when on site so trucks and stuff can spot us more easily. That and the light beacon. I wanted to know as I'd love to find a small Welsh Flag I could stick on there and drive around diplomat style with it on.

These aren't the best photos I admit, but theyre all I have right now.

I think you need to use the "links to use this image" option to the right of your image in ImageShack to get the correct link for posting a picture.

Yes, it is quite fun driving across the site I work on. It's farmland thats not a mine yet, and theres lots of rough tracks, creeks, all sorts to get stuck in. this thing does it just fine! the car gets a lot dirtier than it is in these photos. the things get real dirty on site and sometimes we have to wash them down before leaving otherwise the number plates are unreadable and headlights useless.

This one is quite dirty! Is that meant to be an id on the side!? Ive seen worse of my co workers on site.

nice tracks, they look like they took some effort to make! ive not had the chance to drive mine in the wet properly yet, not quite rainy season here yet!

I like the right one, the previous gens look cool! It'd definitely need bull bars and proper grille in Australia though! Don't want a kangaroo shooting through your radiator!
