Thought as i've put up pics of my old man's pride and joy, I better put mine up as well!

This is car number 13 for me, had a few odd ones in the past including a 1989 Jaguar Sovereign, 1990 VW Corrado and then the normal Audi A4, Mercedes E class, BMW 1-series, VW Bora etc... But i've been wanting one of these since I was a kid and then when I bought my E class I really wanted one but needed a diesel. But now, due to working from home and only doing about 7k a year in my own car (all the rest done in the family Range Rover) I was finally in the position to get the car I really wanted!

I've had it 3 months now and so far (touch wood) it's been a dream to own! Not great on mpg and very expensive to insure being only 24 but when I get to go on a good motorway blast, the costs become worth it!

Here it is, my 2003 W215 CL500 facelift:

How I bought it:

And then how it is now (private reg and lowering links fitted):

Cars very well spec'd as I searched high and low for the right one, and it's got good low mileage and a solid history.

My plans were to add some new wheels, either some Brabus wheels or some CL65 AMG ones, but not til the new year.

All comments welcome.

Thanks.

Great choice. I had one of these about a year ago, a hell of alot of car for the money. I also had the lowering links but the best thing I did was fit a sprint booster. (http://www.sprint-booster.co.uk) Made the car feel far more responsive and is simply plug and play. I still have mine in a box in the garage if you are interested.

A pic of my old one on a set of 19" AMG wheels

Ah, nice! I've been looking at possible remaps/sprint boosters as i do think it could do with a little more punch! Im also looking at having the centre cats removed as i've heard it is a nice little improvement!

Yours had the wheels I want on - literally looks exactly how i'd like mine to haha.

If you would be interested in selling the box, how much would you be looking for?

Thanks!

Christ, I'd forgotten how big they are!

Great car. I love Mercs. I need one in my life as soon as possible.

they're near as make no difference to 5 metres long - longer than our Range Rover and my dad's BMW 650! I love it though, i had a new S320 cdi for a couple of months last year and fell in love with big mercs - my E class just wasn't long enough!

Not sure I would have lowered it but, other than that, gorgeous smile

It's all height adjustable and self levelling so you can lower it whenever you want, i normally drive at the middle height because near me are awful but I do think it looks better when it's sitting at it's lowest.

Love the car, I've always liked the shape and always wanted one - I'm also 24!

I looked at a 55K a few months back, just on a whim really. Did briefly think about it but thought the maintenance etc was a bit too much of a risk - Now the 'lesser' models seem a bit sedate in comparison and the interiors slightly too old man-ish (though the 55K I sat in smelt great and was super comfy!). They are all great cars though and the 500 would be what I'd go for realistically - a later car like yours too.

The running costs just worry me, My E39 540i can cost enough - Just really want soft close doors! Does yours have them?

Stunning car, the interior is brilliant too, definitely one of my favourite car interiors.

Lose the dodgy window sticker though!

Thanks, the running costs are a bit high - my mpg sits around the 20.4 average but on a good motorway blast i can get 27-28! and obviously if anything goes wrong it's a bit bill - I knwo for a fact the suspension costs thousands to replace if it goes!

I love the E39 shape 5-series, looked at them when i bought my e-class!

I looked at 55's and 55k's but the insurance is crippling on a 55k for me and the 55 wasn't much better on paper than the 500 to warrant the extra costs (although I do want tobe in that "elite" AMG club soon!)

Mine does have soft close doors and boot - along with double glazing and a million other little (pointless) gadgets!

Beautiful Merc. It might ruin you, but at least you'll be a stylish bankrupt. Agreed, lose the front window sticker. Pronto.

Does it have one of those cover son the rear numberplate, that's supposed to obscure it from speed cameras?

The rear 'plate looks odd in the picture.

No, it's just slightly tinted but still road legal.

Exactly the same as my 540i which is good to know. RE insurance, A 55k is cheaper for my to insure than an E39 M5!

I'd say there's no way in hell your rear plate is legal though!
