When my 1.8 Mk2 Golf Driver was written off way back in 1999 (yes '19') the insurance company paid out about a grand more than I paid for it. It was then that I wanted something brand new. Step up a pre registered Citroen Saxo VTS with a handful of miles on the clock. Think I paid £10k with a boot full of Citroen accessories as my dad was the General Manager at the dealership. Going from a Golf that I'd paid £1100 for at the auctions to a pre-reg car felt like a massive jump for me and I was grinning for months. It was a really great car. Of course most of them got "modded" and thrashed and to be honest I cant remember the last time I saw an original VTS on the road. Step up Gumtree this time and a 2x lady owned 03 plate VTS in silver. A quick inspection revealed that she had been using it to trasport the dog to the beach and back. Not a problem for me and the full book of dealership stamps clinched the deal. Final price to pay ended up at £1000.

A few things required attention. The brakes were too worn for my liking so I replaced all the discs and pads plus gave it another full service just to keep me happy, including a new timing belt. The thing runs super sweet. An ABS warning turned out to be a dirty connection. The steering is a bit too vague just now though as it needs the alignment done. I see it more like an adult Airfix kit. Don’t care if I’ll never get back what I put in to it, it’s just a bit of fun.

So today its Friday. The day when most Friday-Cars get dusted off for their weekly jaunt into the city. This morning I saw a handful of Porsches and Astons. Whereas I decided to leave the Alpina at home and commute to work in a Saxo!...What a hoot! Makes me laugh at how large cars have got over the years though.

Curse of being a 90s child, I will always have the itch of a Saxo VTS and a 306 GTI-6 to be scratched - look absolutely great fun, and what a bargain for £1000! Nice car, one of few cars i'd consider driving that isn't rear wheel drive

Cheap car, hope its not too rusty / rotten underneath as didn't look too good in your first picture cars always suffer badly when kept near the sea or similar, looks like you have tidied it up well.

I've had quite a VTR and quite a few 106 GTI's in the past - great little hot hatches, bags of fun to drive. Had a year old VTR when I was 18 felt like a supercar at the time lol.

You're right. The front slam panel is a shocker. Ive got a new one there to replace it with. Exposed bare iron parts had flaked quite badly. im gonna drop the rear and strip back the boot floor, repair any suspect looking areas, prime, shultz and paint. No hurry though.

Just back from UPullIT with a shed load of spares inc immaculate glass. Forgot how much fun it is to wander through the scrapy's on a Saturday. Citroen quoted £140 for yesterdays swag which I got for £15! Everything is A1 condition too. The only thing thats dear is the freaking road tax and insurance. My V8 RS4 was cheaper to
insure than the VTS! (

So many of them crashed by teenagers I suppose. I've had lots of clios, but would like a nice Saxo VTS if could find one. Lots of my mates had them 10+ yrs ago when I was into Mk2 Golfs.

ive done the same almost sold my vrs and brought an old t reg gti6 an itched that needed to be scratched,cant believe how well it goes reminds me of my old ctr.good purchase there.mite have to try one are the pedals close together thou.
