Daughter turns 17, wish me luck....

Well, after a seemingly long and torrid childhood my daughter, (no pics available), turns 17 this week. She badly wants to drive, and after a Young Driver Experience at Brands Hatch, she has shown signs of potential behind the wheel.

In one of those weird coincidences this came in at work this week:



2 owners, 62000 miles, 11 service stamps in the book, 4 new tyres etc etc.

So I took the plunge and bought it, insurance for the little madam a reasonable £900 with me and Mrs H67 as named drivers all I need now are some L plates.

I hope I don`t live to regret this.......

Very good cars these, I drove my brothers back from Bath to Norwich, it was remarkably stable at 80 and very refined for this type of car. I'm about to borrow it again whilst my golf and saab are off the road, quite looking forward to it too

Insurance isn't so bad for a learner because you'll always be with them, its after they pass that it goes through the roof. The trick then is to find a car with a good claims record rather than the lowest insurance group - because most of the young drivers pick those and the claims record is poor. Its been much discussed around here already.

Yes, it was on a similar thread where the poster actually found insurance for his kid cheaper on a Jaguar XJ6 then on a Micra/Corsa/Saxo.

Indeed, I`m quite prepared for that scenario. Will cross that bridge if and when Miss H67 passes the test. The Micra won`t be hard to shift if need be and unbeknown to her she may well end up joining the Triumph Sports Six Club and driving a Herald for a few years!!

It`s a one litre Celebration !!! Base model with a sunroof, power steering and a tailgate spoiler to generate some downforce. It is one of those typical low mileage, fastidiously maintained runabouts owned by an old boy. The interior is absolutely as new, the exterior less so.

You won't: one of the "best" cars you could buy for a new driver. Easy AND pleasant to drive, reliable, cheap to run. Perfect

Good choice, our neighbours 17 year old daughter is learning to drive in exactly the same car (there's is British Racing Green though )

Seems easy to maintain and quite frugal too.

Good choice. Those Micras take a kicking and keep on ticking....

Only downside is the papier-mache body. I dread to think what the NCAP rating is.

Well, today little Miss H67 passed her test first time. Quite proud of her TBH ~ she deserves some good news in her life. And chuffed for me too ~ I`ve pretty much taught her for the last couple of months, I stopped her lessons as I had serious doubts about the value of them, both financial and driving wise.

Anyway, she`s now footloose and fancy free. 18 ~ job, car, sensible bf. How time flies ~ seems only yesterday when we did stuff like this:

Never worried about her much before but I do now ( was on tenterhooks the whole time during her first trip on a motorway to Meadowhall ) !!

Tell her to learn the Scameras in your area, mine didn't ( seems she has her fathers genes )
