VX Astra Coupe..
Discussion
Hi all,
New member to PH, been a lurker for a couple of months now, after spending a while browsing through classifieds I eventually found my way over to the forum.
Anyway, I've just turned 21 and I thought for this I would treat myself to a new car. This is only my 2nd car but I am personally quite pleased with it.
Its an Astra Coupe Bertone, with the 1.8 16V lump.

Plans are minimal at present, may invest in a new exhaust (unsure which 1 yet) and maybe a CDTi airbox conversion. Apart from that it will be staying as it is.
Thanks for looking and welcome all replies.

I did look into the 2.2's but couldn't warrant an extra £1000 in insurance for an extra 20hp.
Got a decent deal on it in all fairness, I paid £2700(advertised for 3k) with 3 months parts and labour warranty and a free tank of fuel.
Will be staying totally standard looking, made that mistake with my previous car.

Great cars these, mine was my first car at 17 and in just over 3 years and 31,000 miles it has not missed a beat. Had a slight issue for a sticking brake but other than that it has been faultless. The 1.8 engine is fairly pokey and 400+ miles to a tank is obtainable if driven carefully. Mine still puts a smile on my face today and I'm sure you will enjoy yours
What age and mileage is it?

Its not been a bad car at all so far. Been told of a few problems with them like leaky sump covers and the smell of petrol because the cap isn't sealed as well as it could be.
Had a few issues, bottom row of fins has peeled away on rad, will be replacing soon(not leaking) when I have time, around 4mm of the drivers spring has snapped but will be replacing both fronts for my own piece of mind has they creak on sleeping policemen, and last week I had to replace a tyre as it had split on the inner wall.
Its got good history and has been kept to the service intervals, had its last service at 60k with the cambelt and waterpump being changed.
Can't wait to get out on a few good drives now!

My wee sister has just bought one of these. Decent cars and cheap too. Just make sure the cambelt and water pump have been/are replaced every 4yrs/40k miles (whichever is first) and also keep on top of the rear brakes as they're prone to seizing and dragging. Despite what the masses say, they are good on fuel. She managed circa 440miles on a tank driving to Sussex. Also, the CDTi airbox conversion doesn't apply to these, that mod only applies to Z20LET powered cars.
Cheers!

My 1st car, owned for 2 and 1/2 years. Learn't in it, broke it, fixed it and had some good times in it.

Stolen from the 'No Longer' Pride And Joy' thread. Not too bad IMO, I have seen worse.
