right, havnt been near a comp recently, otherwise i would have put this up sooner but never mind!

last week i bought my first RWD.

bmw 5 series, e34, 2.0 straight six smile

MOT & TAX, new radiator and alternator for the grand total of £100 biggrin

ive bought it with the sole purpose of having fun, whilst learning proper car control while im at it!

so far ive welded the diff, stripped the interior, sorted a bucket and harness, and booked a drift/trackday down pembrey on the 11th of march!

ill let the pics do the talking

itching to go have a play on the 11th now! for now, shes parked up in the yard at work, its a nob to drive due to the welded diff, just skips!

look forward to some sideways pics soon smile

Am I reading this right?
A straight 6 BMW for £100?
A straight 6 road legal BMW for £100?!?
That is cracking mate.
Even if I'm not reading that correctly it's excellent and exactly the type of thing I'll be looking to buy in the future as a track slag.
I shall be following this.

haha, no tha bucket isnt permanant! it'll be mounted onto the subframe of the seat when i get time to pull the seat out and apart! smile

and yes, you are reading it right, £100!

it was a taxi, so has 185k, but, its been meticusly*(spelling) looked after, and has only pootled about, the driver i bought it off was an old chap who dosent drive hard!

its taxed and moted till the end of march, but ill be putting 12 months on her next week, theres no reason why she shouldnt pass, shes SOLID underneath!

then ill be pulling the middle silencer boxes out, fitting a washer tank in the boot to a spraybar in the back wheel arches to soak the tyres :P and mounting the bucket!

im well exited for the day down pembrey, my first time giving anyhthing some abuse at a track!

Is this the 24V facelift? And even so, being a 520i is it going to have the grunt for any serious sideways action? What tyres is it on..? biggrin

im not sure if its a 24v tbh, all i know is that its a 2.0 straight six, ive only opened the bonnet to degrease the engine smile

it has got more than enough grunt, but it seems to have power more up in the rev range...nothing nothing nothing thenaround 4/5k revs it takes off!

the welded diff makes the rear really really twitchy! its just parked up atm till next sunday, ive got the golf as a daily!

tyres are 15" btw! im slowly getting a stockpile together!

Fair enough, being on an M plate and the way you describe the power delivery I think it probably is a 24valver, they had wider kidney grilles than the earlier 12valve cars [/anorak mode]

have had a chance to get on here, and upload some pictures that where taken on sunday!

first things first, let me tell you it was a BRILLIANT day at pembrey!

saturday i had spend the day sorting the car out, buying fuel, sorting tools and tyres

then i was up at 6.30am, sunday morning, left at 7, drivers sign on/briefing was at 9.

my mate had gone half on the entry, and was using the car, so that helped with the costs towards it!

there were around 12/14 cars there, with 4 cars doing 4laps, then returning, depending how tyres/fuel were lasting, it was straight to the back of the queue to go again, so the longest you would wat was about 4 laps, some of the higher power cars were having problems, blowing boost pipes etc, so we had a lot of seat time!

due to it being the first time i had ever done any sort of tracktime, let alone any drifting!

first few runs where a bit sketchy, with me spinning out, but an instuctor came for a spin and showed me where i was going wrong!

after i learned it wasnt all about foot flat, it was about feedling the power in, and playing with the steering, and just balancing the car, towards the end of the day i was catching them and managed to catch a few good slides!

the bmw did us proud! she ran ALL day being bounced of the limiter in 2nd, tyres squealing, and with no mechanical sympathy at all, the engine sounded like an old fiesta HCS engine by about 11am! smile and despite it being the heaviest car there, the one with least power, she was on top form, and didnt miss a beat, the exhaust broke the mounts around 3pm, but we snapped it off at the middleboxes and got back out there!
changed her onto road leagal tyres and drove home in it too smile

it was a fantastic day organised by the (drift-inc) lot, with a really relaxed vibe, and no pressure, no egos, just a bunch of lads having fun!

it taught me a hell of a lot of car control, and ill definatly be booking the next one! smile

just need to make the 5iver a bit more powerfull, and put it on a bit more of a diet smile

Ready to leave sat.
