This is one of my BMWs - a 1973 2002 Touring with a 4 cylinder m3 engine. The blocks of these engines are based on the original m10 4 cylinder that came in these cars, so as far as engine swaps go it's pretty straight forward - so much so there are over 100 of these m2s in the World.

Check out my web site - it's got a gallery with 111 m2s from around the World:

Awesome car. I have an 1800 Neue Klasse saloon that I would love to put an E30 M3 engine and box in, would then be a cracking road car
I've got a 1600 neue klasse as well, but with a mildly tuned 2 litre under the bonnet and big disks all round, as well as a 5 speed. There's an s14 powered NK in Germany but I can't help thinking this would be a too buzzy engine for the NK and a torquey m20 would be a better bet.
More pics than you could wish for here - I've been compiling pics of m2s for more than 10 years:

Sorry just seen your reply. Nice NK there, I see your point about it being a bit lively for road use, however I think that kind of appeals to me. Found someone with an S14 and dog leg 5 speed for sale, will probably rebuild it to sport evolution spec, not sure whether injection or twin 48 webers. Will probably choose a slightly longer diff ratio do that it'll cruise at 80-90 comfortably.

don't get me wrong, it would be an awesome engine for a racey NK, mine's just a bit more cruisey - well at least that's what I was building her for, but can't help thrashing her about the mountain roads. She handles really well now.Making a start on a new diff today - currently has a an open 3.45:1, but I've sourced an LSD from an m535, but at 3.07:1 is far too long. So the other week my mate managed to grab a cheap 3.64:1, which I reckon will be perfect - so now I've just got to see if the LSD pack will swap over. Might need some m8's drilling out to m10, but as far as I can tell that's it. Fingers crossed as I'm always spinning up the inside wheel on hairpins.
Funnily enough I've got a pair of dellorto 48's for my m2, going old school with the rebuild.

Full of win, I've been looking that site for a couple of years, prices of 2002's has started climbing quickly
Glad you like it - when I converted mine there was one m2 documented on the web - it inspired my build, so I hope the site has inspired a few more. You're right, Tii prices have doubled recently.Gassing Station | Readers' Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
