This has been my Dad's Mk1 Escort for the past 9 years,With the last procharged Vauxhall XE engine it run a 10.42 at 129 mph but now this is what it currently looks like,

Everything on the car has been done by himself apart from bodywork and paintwork, The car had its first outing at Classic Ford Show 2012 at Santa Pod Raceway, But first it went over to S.R.M.C in Leicester for a rolling road and set-up. On the rolling road it produced 608bhp with 508nm at 29psi, One of the boost pipes came off during this power run so it was aborted.

So the boost was lowered down to 20psi for its first runs at the pod, and Dad went round for his first run, We was expecting to be somewhere around where we were with the old engine which was mid-low 10s and when this came up on the timing board, it took everyone by suprise...

After this run he done a 9.6 and on the sunday another 9.6 and a 9.7.
Winning Fastest Forced Induction car at Classic Ford Show smile

Next outing will be Retro Show at Santa Pod on the 1st July.
With some wider slicks we hope the times will slowly come down smile

Heres an in-car and out-car video of the first run off the trailer

That's quick smile

Can't help but think there should be a Cosworth engine under there though, no doubt some of the die-hard Ford fans turn their noses up at it having a Vauxhall lump?!

Yeah do get the odd comment that it should be a Ford engine, The original n/a engine was purchased before the car so once the escort was brought the xe went into that and the car is known for having a vauxhall lump in there so my dad decided to keep with the xe smile

Can't fault the logic. Plus I love seeing Ford owners/enthusiasts getting wound up at seeing Vauxhall engines in Escorts hehe

Good work! If someone told me last week that was a 9 second car I'd have hat material around my mouth.

Quick and gorgeous.

Wow. That is seriously fast.

The first car I ever went in on the way home from the maternity ward was a blue Mk1 Escort. Safe to say it never made 608bhp or 141mph.

What does it weigh Kieran?

those wheels and tyres look very small for a 9 second car - what size are they, and are they slicks?

What was your Dads best time in the Pop, he must be getting close to that now...

Great effort and I love watching the Old Skool Ford lot at the RWYB's and the like.

Wow, lovely car!

I was going to ask why no Cosworth engine but I see you cleared that up, makes it quite interesting.

It IS a Cosworth engine... The Cosworth KBA.

This is without a doubt the most brutal sounding car I've ever seen at Santa Pod. So loud it hurts.

I did see it when it had the pro charger though, I guess it's a bit more civilised now!

Wow I never thought the Pop went as quick as that, respect indeed.

I remember your Dad being a fierce racer then as my family are close friends with Steve Green so I have very fond memories of the Rover V8 class and the York Street racer series...

That's lovely. I have a real soft spot for rear drive Escorts. A few years ago I did a magazine article on a quartet of drag racing Mk1 Escorts for Performance Ford magazine. I'll have to try and dig it out...
