So the time has come to replace the daily workhorse. I currently have a 2009 Honda Civic 1.4 Type S, which has been reliable but quite thirsty and has a front end that looks like it's been shot blasted.
As I don't get the greatest pence per mile from my employer on top of car allowance, I was looking for something that would return a better MPG figure than 36!
I tried an Insignia, thought about a Skoda Superb and also a Mondeo and in the end went for a 508, mainly down to the interior and kit it came with.
I asked the dealer to source me an ex Peugeot management car and he found me this:
It's a 1.6 e-hdi Active in Flint Grey and has Bluetooth, Rear Parking Sensors and Auto Fold Mirrors on top of the standard spec. It's done 6,100 miles in just over a year.
As the title suggests, it's no ball of fire, but should suit me quite well as a business user.
Edited to say oopps only just seen the bit about putting in the Make and Model into the title. I'll ask Garlick if he can do it for me.

Well I've managed to put 160 miles on it since last Friday. First impressions are very good. It's very quiet, is a lot softer going over sleeping policeman and the fuel economy is just what I wanted. I've used up just under a quarter of a tank and it's averaged 53.8!
I'm having to adjust to the size of it when parking, I am oddly finding it a hard to park straight and normally I'm godd at that.
I was a bit hopeless with the stop start (engine cuts out at 4mph when breaking) and the EGC gearbox on Friday, but now after a couple of days I've got to grips with it.

I think these are great looking cars - far better looking than Mondeos and Insignias. I'm sure it's perfect for high mileage work stuff.As an aside, I assume you know you can claim back (via your tax return) the difference between what your employer gives you per mile and the Governments allowance? If you get 15p per mile from your employer, you can claim back 25p per mile from the tax man for every mile under 10K p/a, and 10p per mile thereafter.
Lovely cars, very comfortable. Had a 508SW with the 1.6HDi as a rental car last month. Fully equipped including panoramic roof and automatic gearbox. Drove it from Teesside to Port Talbot and then the weekend in the Black Mountains. No complaints besides thhat horrible, horrible automatic gearbox. Just didn't do what I wanted it to do, especially in combination with start stop. So i resorted to shift with the flappy pedals and switching start-stop off. Always opt for the manual....

Not sure without knowing the 'ins and outs' of your package - but I'm surprised to hear you don't get taxed on your allowance - I would have though you would do somewhere, somehow. If it's income from your employer, then it will be taxed methinks.There is probably someone far cleverer and more knowledgable about such things on here who could help no doubt, but a few details regarding your allowances and mileage (how much, how they're paid, etc) would help us 'amateur advisors'.

They are still running a fixed profit car scheme and have done for years, but no I'm not paying tax that I am 100 percent on. It's something that's been debated on here on and off before with people saying it's not possible, but I'm certainly not being taxed at my end. There is probably someone far cleverer and more knowledgable about such things on here who could help no doubt, but a few details regarding your allowances and mileage (how much, how they're paid, etc) would help us 'amateur advisors'.
