Slightly different criteria to most cars posted on here, but exciting for me nonetheless

I've recently passed all my ADI exams, and am setting up as an independent instructor. My other half used to work for Skoda and still knows folk there, so I got in through the back door (so to speak) and got a very good deal on a 7 month old, 2700 miles, top spec Fabia Elegance. It's got the new 1.6 CR TDI engine, which I'm very happy with. I'm not sure the sign on the top does the CoD much good, but I like it

Take pride in your sign! I see loads of instructors with horrible old yellowing signs, so look after yours.

Well done. Difficult starting off on your own. We found it tough to Market without chucking money at it. Stick at it though and nice car for the job

A mobile number as the contact doesn't give a very good impression in my view.

End up missing calls unless you stick divert up on land line. As long as website etc has land line on so people know your not fly by night etc

Thanks folks, I chose the car carefully to meet my needs. It's bought outright with savings, and I'm fully independent (no franchise fees), so I'll have no overheads apart from the fuel for lessons. With a part time job teaching music in schools currently paying the bills, I've set up to give the business every chance to be sustainable in the early days.

I have plans in motion to get into schools delivering my own short-course of theory sessions to 6th formers too (I'm a qualified classroom teacher), so that should help the work build up.

I'm based in Beds, so a little far from Lancashire!

I'm hoping the mobile number won't be a turn off, word on the instructor forums is that nobody's ever found it to make a difference, so fingers crossed!

i like it! make sure to keep on top of the tar spots and stuff though, they will make your nice white paintwork look rough after a while!

also, regards to the mob number, emphasize that you can do text.
my old instructor had a mini, lowered on team dynamics, and down his door in big writing was his number and 'text me'

sounds awful, but simple and did the job, i arranged all my lessons through texting, and especially with the youngsters these days being all bbm and text mad! its a surefire way to tap into that market!

That actually looks quite smart.
Much better than the endless boggo Corsa/Fiesta/500 I usually see being driven badly by instructors pupils.

Good luck Timbob - I've just returned to instructing (this week!) after a soul destroying few months working in an office. After a very short time - days rather than weeks - I realised that sitting staring at a computer for eight hours a day didn't do it for me, and I was itching to get back on the road!

Nice car, I like the look of the new Fabia.

When I learnt, my instructor didnt have a box on the roof. Only had the 'L' plates front & back with a only a decal on each door to indicate the driving school name. This was in a brand new MG ZR 105+ back in 2003.

When I learned to drive it was in a brand new Austin Metro city from 1989.
