One extreme to the other - Mazda to Mitsi

For the last 4 years I've been tootling around in the old PH favourite a mk1 mx5.
It was great, enjoyed the experience very much and would heartily reccomend one to anyone.
Bought and sold for almost an indentical price too which is always a bonus.
Anyway.... Four years in one car is far too long so 6 weeks ago I bought what has long been a dream car.
Originally I wanted a vi but the state of alot of them out there made buying rather difficult!
When this 8 popped up at a price I couldn't resist it was an easy decision.
Completly and utterly different to the mx5.
Off boost its a little slow, lazy and a little unresponsive especially if you get caught in the wrong gear.
However once the turbo kicks in...... Wow. It's everything I hoped it would be.
Handling is immense, it just sticks and sticks and sticks
It's pretty standard, a few tweaks but nothing major
Interior, comfort etc I'm pretty impressed too always heard people say the interior is poor but I think it's comfortable and does exactly what it should.
So a pretty extreme change from the mx5 but not one that I'm regretting in the slightest.

Snotrag - I figured a change would be as good as a rest so I went for soemthing i'd fancied for a long time and that was completly different.

Yup 30mpg is a thing of the past - so far i've lost 10mpg - (when being very careful), it also likes V Power.
Sometimes so far I've missed going everywhere at flat out, in the '5 I was so used to the car it was revved hard everywhere, I knew exactly what it was going to do and when and where the backend was going. In the Evo i've had to restrain myself a litle so far, its literally a case of pushing the loud pedal and its three figures before you know it, it also sticks to the road in a quite unnerving way. 4 wheel drive is vastly different to the rwd of the 5. Having lots of fun finding out exactly how fast it will go round the local business park roundabouts though. I think once i've had it a while longer and know it like I knew the 5 i'll be very very happy, already feeling very confident in it and of being able to push it pretty hard.
Its also quite nice to have a car with some creature comforts, and a hint of moderness about it - no disrespect to the 5 though as it well specced for a 18 year old car.
I think the only thing that I really miss is the ability to drop the roof, luckily the weather hasn't been too great recently but every so often I keep thinking "wish I could drop the roof"

But i'm also still using it as a daily which it is doing very well.
Not cheap to run though.
Averaging 22mpg.
And servicing via specialist isn't especially cheap either. Just had its second service since I bought it.
Had a few bits and bobs crop up that have cost me including a replacement prop shaft, two new rear calipers, pads & dsics, and a full underseal and rust treatment.
I also need two new tyres now.
Definitly worth it.
