1998 Celica GT, should I?

Hi Guys,

I'm new here and am just about to change cars. I've got rid of my last motor and am considering a 1998 Celica GT.

It's UK spec, with GT-Four bumpers, bonnet and spoiler. BK alloys, and a cheap induction kit (which will be replaced with a quality one).

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are and what regular problems there seem to be with these...

Nice cars. Not the quickest in the world, but good enough for a boon should you need it. Engines are very good. The 3S-GE which is one of those bulletproof type engines. Comfortable, and the handling is pretty good, considering.

I had a 98 Celica GT, UK spec for a couple of years, thought it was a great car, mine had 135k on the clock and the engine was still strong. Suspension was a bit baggy, but still fun to have a blast in. Found fuel economy was like a Honda VTEC, if I drove sensibly it was reasonable, but if the roads were quiet and the throttle was regularly hitting end stop you could watch the fuel guage drop!

Thanks guys, tbh fuel is not so much of an issue. I'm going to be earning good money on local farmland this potato harvest and it's going to be used mostly for commuting till mid-November when it will go in the garage for a bit of tidying up.

Unfortunately can't afford to buy the gt-4 at the moment, but maybe when I've had this a little while and earned some money I can 'upgrade'.
