I have been scanning the classifieds and lusting after these for quite some time now and have always found an excuse not to take the plunge, but this one came up 6 miles from home and ticked a lot of boxes. The colour scheme was the right one - Carnival red with cream leather and black wood, no dents and mileage was 70K with loads of stamps in the book(although not much in the way of paperwork). A deal was done after the test drive and I picked the car up a couple of days later.

I booked the car in for chains and tensioners, gearbox oil change and m.o.t. They were fully booked for so I had to wait for 2 weeks during which time some pillock in a 3 series BMW decided to use the rear of my car to stop as his phone was more important than looking where he was going. Luckily the damage was confined to the rear bumper and he was insured so I arranged for XJ restorations in Eastbourne to do the work, as the car was booked in with them for the mechanical work. The car still needs the gearbox oil changing as they didn't do it when they had the car as it was left till last thing they found the drain plug was rounded off and they ran out of time because I needed the car for my holiday. The car needs discs and pads shortly as it's shown as an advisory on the m.o.t.
Thanks must go to all the guys on PH who own XJR's and put up topics about them because it has been down to you, describing the power and the whine from the supercharger that has tempted me into one of these fantastic machines.
I know there is going to be some more bills, but, as the saying goes - you're only here once!

What a great car, I absolutely love these things.
Out of interest, how much supercharger whine do you get with these? My best frame of reference for a luxury / performace hybrid is the E39 M5, which was near-limo quiet at lower revs but once you had the throttle properly open the induction noise came flooding into the cabin through the vents in the dash, and you could really hear the V8 roaring away. I absolutely love supercharger noise, but how much do Jaguar let you hear? Are there any kind of modifications you can do to get more inducted into the cabin, or is it adequate as it is? Come to think of it, to throw the question open, whether you go for a 6 or 8 cylinder version, how much induction and exhaust note can you hear inside the car with the windows up, and how much with a window down?
I once got to sit in an older XK (X100) that was supercharged, and even revving it at idle you could hear the supercharger whining slightly, I can only imagine that was much louder on the road, but as more of an outright sports car than the XJ, I'd have thought they'd have let the charger be more audible anyway.

That's very nice indeed
A future classic in the making.
I did notice that the colour of the wood finish on the steering wheel doesn't quite match that on the rest of the interior. I wonder if that's how it left the factory, or if the wheel was replaced at some point. Perhaps you could consider getting a matching wheel on eBay, or replacing with a full leather wheel (which IMHO better suits the sporting character of the XJR).

Mine was the same.

As for supercharger whine it's only really on full throttle and even then it's not loud at all, about the same volume as someone speaking softly, in my car wind noise became louder beyond second gear.
Just booked the car back in for gearbox oil/filter change and there are a couple of paintwork issues to get done. The laquer is lifting a little on the front o/s wing and there is a bit of bubbling starting to appear on the nearside windscreen pillar. Thought I'd get it done at the same time. That should leave just the discs and pads to be done before the pockets are completely empty.
